Not really sure how to fix some of the asymmetrical texture seams or merge all the meshes into one, though.
Exporting from SMD with ohana merges everything together.
I know that in blender you ctrl+j to merge meshes togehter (I.E: Eye polygon and body polygons) and remove doubles to smooth it out. I don't know max that well, sorry.
