I realize he should have given credit; I'm not defending that. The point is permission, not credit. How many fangames do you know that actually ask permission for the sprites/models/sounds they use? Even still, those that make their own most likely don't ask for IP rights before making them. And as Jitter said, they're just placeholders until he can get his own. Why bitch about something that may not even be in the final product?

If everyone who made resources or owned the IPs were as restrictive as the guys arguing against Jitter here are, then SSF2 wouldn't even exist in the first place. I still find it ironic that this argument is even coming up on a network who's major content is ripped assets from other games, and the rest of the content is fanart, be it derived or original. You made a game; your resources will be ripped and used. There's no harm in using them for freeware games. If it was a problem, as I just said, then fangames wouldn't even exist, so either grow up or shut up.

Oh yes, grow up or shut up. I'm sure I should definitely take one of those options. Here's the thing. Dude didn't want sprites that he made being used without his permission. There's plenty of people on here that are the same way. If I took CBL's TFR sprite, coloured it green, and used it for a Farnham without even asking for permission, he could tell me not to use his stuff. And he's fully right for doing so. Oh, so it's a common practice for people not to ask for permission? That doesn't make it any less right. There's also a huge difference between using an IP to make a sprite with and using someone else's sprites for a game. My problem isn't even with the dude using the sprites without permission. It's more of the fact that the dude who made the sprites came on here to say that he didn't want them to be used without permission and people kind of shitted on him

Well if it's wrong to use someone else's sprites without permission, regardless of credit or monetary gain, then by your logic, SSF2 shouldn't have been made at all. I guarantee they didn't have permission from everyone who made those sprites. And while Jitter may have agreed not to use them, do you think that if someone like Nintendo said to stop using their Mario sprites, that everyone would? I'm not saying art theft is OK, but in the case of a free fangame, what's the harm in it? In fact, Damien letting someone else use his sprites as long as they give credit would be better for him since more people would see his work and know where to go to find more of it if they like it. It's free publicity that way, and all he has to do is say "Hey, Jitter, I see you're using my sprites. Please remember to credit me, OK?"
