I challenged myself at making an HD version of a Sonic sprite. I would like to hear your thoughts.

uh...well, its not that great.
The problem is you're not actually trying to make it "HD" 
with an HD sprite you need to make it larger and more detailed. I mean, the sprite you "made" still has little balls for hands.


Cave story plus does a good job of this.
adding details and extra shading.

So you just need to put more effort into it.
