Kriven pretty much explained why a lot of people know Roy and that's a big point. Fire Emblem consists of many games with different protagonists, like Final Fantasy and stuff. It's a source of many characters. We have NES Marth, GC Ike and 3DS Robin (Lucina doesn't count, because intended to be a costume). Why not add GBA Roy? Sure there's Eliwood, but again, more people know Roy, FE or not.

I know you're giving an example here, but they changed up Ike's appearance in this game to reflect his newer Radiant Dawn appearance.

I kinda wonder if they'll change Roy's appearance to the one from the Awakening DLC. That'd be amazing, but...
I don't know how likely that'd be given Ike, too was redesigned and that's not in SSB4 either :/
