By the look of it his face is just one solid model too, like he wouldn't be able to open his teeth if he tried. It seems like the same kind of lack of detail for each assist trophy. Mother Brain's brain is just a texture, for example, no real depth to it, and Skull Kid has the same gross hands as Waluigi, albeit with some articulation.

Still, I find it forgivable enough. Assist appearances are infrequent, and real gameplay is much faster paced and not played nearly as close as this. I personally won't notice the difference in gameplay, but yeah, disappointing all the same.
