Actually, he wasn't even born in december. Most of the traditions you see incorporated in christmas today originate from pagan rituals like winter solstice and saturnalia. There's no record in the bible about celebrating the birthday of christ, it was instituted into christianty to appease everybody. Early Puritans even boycotted it for a while, as per Jeremiah 10:2-5 and other scriptures. America only began to reinvent/embrace it around the 19th century. That's what I gather in preliminary, anyway.

On topic, yeah we're all pretty broke around here. In my family you get what you need sometimes even way before christmas, as an early christmas gift. Mostly it's a time to just be together and be thankful.
