Transparent fur texturing
#1
Hello there, this isn't really related to model ripping but I don't know where else to ask. I am a 3D character model artist myself, and I've been bothered by the technique used to create realistic looking fur in low res games, for example the Queen Bee in Super Mario Galaxy and the colossi in Shadow of the Colossus. As far as I have been able to work out, this technique does not have a name, but if I could do it with my own models I would be very happy.

I figured I might be able to backward engineer the technique from models on this site but it seems the technique is removed from the models when ripped, if anyone has any idea how this technique was achieved please let me know.
