sticking to the way you do things is okay and all but I feel like more time is spent overall on using featureless apps. The end result can be good and all, but does it match the effort and endurance test you had to go through to make this single piece?
If you have a bigger reason not to update, for example a shit pc, personal unintuitiveness or objective lack of quality, that's something I can understand, but a shitton of alternatives today only improve the way you deal with pixelart. This is why I see no reason to keep yourself so tightly tied to such app.
ofc no transition is smooth and without its problems, but you can always use graphicsgale or aseprite in tandem with mspaint, then you'll learn to use them both efficiently, eventually replacing it altogether.
