Zelda 3d porting on a problematic .Max file

I find a old project about converting in 3D a zelda map.
There is the video:

Also in the description you can find the "source" download.
The problem is that the map model is a .max file almost impossible to open.....

In the readme inside the guy Write what he use:
-Illustrator
-Max2010
-Illustrate! plug-in
-Final toon plug-in

I think need the max with that plugin to open it....

Anyone know-how solve this problem?
I have already emailed the guy that made it,
Ill' wait for a answer...
