no seriously. call me a dumb baby but while I too am a little bummed that the game isn't running ATB as a throwback to the 90's, this system honestly looks A LOT more fun to play.
Looking at the trailer for the FF7 remake it's a mix of AXB (active cross battle) from FFXV with Kingdom Hearts mixed in (seems more like the other way around - KH, of FFXV

It's kind of Kingdom Hearts-ish already. In the FFXV demo above admittedly AXB looks kinda slow, so to see a mix of that and one of their most popular battle systems to keep the gameplay upbeat and fast-paced is great. I don't know how well a character like Barrett or Yuffie is going to translate into this new battle system without being boring (stay back, just dodge a lot and spam semi-automatic gun arm or ninja stars) but I'm already looking forward to boxing the shit out of people as Tifa. Which is like, c'mon
They're gonna let you box the shit out of people with Tifa
If they put "Box the shit out of people with Tifa" on the box, it's an instabuy. Even if they force you to stick with Cloud, he looks like he's got a decent enough flowing combo system to keep things flowing.
But I'm with most of you guys - I was too excited during the trailer to notice that Cloud has a little noodly arms. Keep in mind though that this is an EARLY demo, so they might beef him up sometime between now and whenever-they-feel-like-releasing-this-game.
But really, dead honest - this game looks fucking hot and I want it. I really hope KH3 flows this nicely. I think I'm the intended audience though - Westerners who were kinda put off the original and would be more interested in a game that literally anyone could pick up. The ATB battle system of the past is honestly offputting to a significant chunk of today's gaming audience (really, it appeals to classic gamers, and that's nice and all but it's also a bit alienating to newer ones who enjoy today's dynamic storytelling and fast-paced action titles) so it makes sense that they're basically taking one of their most popular battle systems and revamping it so that a larger audience will be able to enjoy it.
Like c'mon. Now your friend who loves Destiny, hates Mario but thought Bayonetta was alright now has a gateway game into JRPGs.
