I think the ideal art style for a Mario remake is the "instruction manual" style - as seen up through Super Mario World. Lot of good stuff there.

I think you're referring to Yoichi Kotabe's work (seen all the way up through Super Mario 3D Land in Peach's letters to Mario) and yeah that's a Really Fricken Good art style for like, anything Mario
