i'm gonna be 100% honest right now, the baby gamer in me flipped out at these designs, especially knuckles', but the more i look at these guys, the more i like them. their new design's starting to grow on me now. especially given the fact this is like, a spinoff of the current franchise (it's basically megaman x, but sonic)
i can kind of justify the stupid-ass shoe wraps at this point; each character's use of bandages give extra accentuation to each characters' abilities (this is more aimed at younger viewers). given how long sonic and tails have been running around in those shoes, they're bound to get worn out. where are you gonna get new shoes when you're stranded in the middle of jurassic park?
i also like how sonic has FAR MORE bandages than tails on his shoes to further drive this point home, lol (except...why doesn't tails have bandages on his tails then...)

what i like and dislike at the same time is that now sonic's friends have more pronounced silhouettes. what i like about them is that amy's slinky figure and body language really lends the fact that she's the most acrobatic of the bunch, and tails has goofy-ass goggles and a wrench sticking out of...uh, well, he's a spunky little mechanic! and knuckles is...well, now it's obvious that knuckles punches the shit out of everything. what i DON'T LIKE is that sonic's got a piss-poor silhouette now, a mess of a design that just screams "amateur designer!"


see what i mean? like, is that nathan drake's nephew on the far left? sonic looks so horribly generic now, compared to the King of Cool i knew growing up as a kid (and don't even get me started on the blue arms; though i guess you could argue sonic got older so he grew some arm hair lol? might also explain why amy's arms haven't changed)

actually, tails and knuckles' height relation shows a pretty horrible amateur design flaw as well ):

what i'm really curious about is the design direction they're going to take with Amy. there's some kind of trend in reboots lately (see: april o'neil in the new turtles cartoon) that the ditzy damsel is reimagined and takes a stronger, more pronounced role with narratives that contribute to more robust character development (which is totally cool with me) so I'm really excited to see if they make Amy an actually engaging character (as opposed to "G2G TALK TO BIRDS AND GUSH OVER SANIC" throwaway character)

though, i'm not really sure how graceful they can make amy if her melee combat revolves around using a giant hammer.
if they rework her so she's got actually badass melee combos where she hammerspaces horizontal hammer swings with an overhead axe-swing finisher, i could totally get behind that


oh and if knuckles just suplexes everyone into oblivion i will buy a wii u just for this game
