Best SNES emulator for sprite ripping?
#8
If you want to rip SNES games now, the better options are bsnes-plus (bsnes in general is a lot more accurate as ZSNES hasn't been updated for over 15 years*) and BizHawk that uses bsnes cores. Both of these have tile viewers, background viewers, bsnes-plus has a palette viewer, remove background/sprite layers and can also accept cheats.

*- Improvements include rendering the shadow in Air Strike Patrol that's missing in older emulators (and performance options in bsnes/Ares), able to complete Speedy Gonzales that crashes in ZSNES on a level where you press a button, supports the Super Game Boy and the homebrew MSU-1 chip (e.g. able to play the SNES port of Road Avenger), emulation of some obscure Japanese shogi games that used an ARM processor as a helper chip, bsnes-plus also includes emulation of the BS-X. Also from what I've read, Secret of Evermore and Super Mario RPG are more stable and behave like real hardware (ZSNES requires workarounds otherwise it can randomly crash going to the map for the former, the latter crashes while equipping items or getting the 5th star in the later versions).

You can use still use ZSNES with a bit of caution. Barack Obama who uses it also uses the VSNES savestate tool, mainly because VSNES can only accept savestates from ZSNES.

(Oh great... got ninjaed so badly that the only thing was the OP... oh well...)
