That would be because that is what they actually do in-game. If you're looking for the unlayered sprites, each one is present on its own at some point in the animation, though. (Frame 1, Frame 5, and the last two frames). I was intending to comment on it.
Mike Kirby
Copy Kirby
Crash Kirby
Interesting things about these abilities:
Mic Ability doesn't have much to comment on. Although I was surprised that in the third version of the attack, the sprite used in frames 1, 3, & 6 actually has a hand hidden behind the microphone. Considering that this is the only ability that uses this sprite and the hand is completely covered up each time, it's kind of redundant.
In the Copy Ability, I discovered that Kirby's mask actually has five different color variants. This changes the shade of red used in the lense of the mask itself, but also if you look reeeeeeeally closely you can see a one-pixel light on the mask that blinks between green, white, and pink, which also matches the color of the beam in that given moment.
With Crash, I tried to see if it was worth it to try and include the actual bubble shape that emerges from Kirby's body, but unfortunately it's inconsistent; probably due to being a special SNES effect and not actually sprites with rigid shapes. Ton already commented on the overlapping sprites thing.
Curiously, Kirby looks like he may have teeth in the first frame of the Crash animation.
