Also Koopaul, You actually really did fight Carrots (and apparently Onions) in that game. Goombas didn't look like straight up mushrooms with eyes.

Rare's designs are sometimes bizarrely unimaginative. Not rarely, they simply put a pair of eyes in an object and says it's a character.
