From what I hear, it gets flak because it isn't the first game.
I haven't actually played the first game, so I really can't connect there, but I enjoy the game a good amount.
It's got a deep story that I myself find endearing, and moral choices that I will actually care about doing.
It's not like the moral choices in other games where it's just for a different ending, you're literally choosing to be a saint or a sinner here.
The gameplay is smooth, and at times challenging and unfair, but that's the only thing I really see wrong with it.
