You can rip backgrounds from games such as "Spawn" "Super Ghosts and Goblins" and even "Earthworm Jim" with a good hellish look on them.
These games are from the Super Nintendo system, the emulator recommended is Zsnes.
Once you start playing them, the keys 1 to 5 on your keyboard can disable the sprites and some background elements to get cleaner captures, the key F1 is used to take the captures and save them in the same folder where you put the games.
