"anime" and "manga" are terms that describe what you mean just fine.
referring to them every time as "japanese comics" or "japanese animation" out loud in public makes you sound like you have aspergers; when you use words like "anime" and "manga", they already know what you mean (the media aforementioned that is created in Japan)
it's not to make it sound more pretentious or elite over comics from elsewhere, it just means it's such an accomplished genre of cartoons/comics that it gets its own name. im sure if Brazilian comics became awesome overnight it would be referred to worldwide as comiçao or something (though i think you just use the cognate word "comic" or something)

oh and just to sugar up the discussion J-pop is referred to as "domestic pops" in music stores. we refer to the music as J-pop just to distinguish it from OUR domestic pop (whether that be in the US, England or Brazil)

Viper, I have something new I want to show you today. It's called "translating". You see, when there's a word that corresponds to what it's meant in other language, one uses said word.

For an example. Japanese people grab Marvel's Spiderman Comics, and don't call them SPIDAAMAN KOMIKUSU. They call it manga, because manga is japanese for comic books. Be it from Japan, America or Europe, it's all manga for the Japanese.

Anime is a contraption of Animeshon, Animation. For a japanese, the PowerPuff Girls are as much anime as Dragon Ball Z as Ren & Stimpy.

To sum it all up, what you said was plain idiotic and relates to what Rokkan was saying- weeaboo americans refusing to use perfectly fine english because japanese sounds cooler and superior.
are you 12 or something that's not translation that's a loan word

and not to shit in your dinner but all comics by their lonesome are called コミックス "comics". A Japanese comic book enthusiast refers to his American Spiderman comics as コミックスアメリカ人- American comics.
Comics as a collective though - Japanese, American, and European are referred to as "manga". A certain subgenre is called whatever it may be that you're looking for. But in Japanese bookstores, you'll find it posted on the tabs above the section コミックス

also a contraption is a machine someone builds, "anime" is an abbreviated pronunciation of animation.

ignorance vs ignorance who will win.....
