it's cool because they can do it in all japanese and still speak english (using hiragana)
I suppose romaji is the same thing but the other way around
hiragana is for like newspapers and stuff katakana is for foreign words, names and children's books

that and romanji like katakana and hiragana is simply another version of japanese inscription but made by the dutch (is that the right word?)
btw asking a japanese person to pronounce "shoe" is like a form of hazing
they'll sit there for like half an hour trying to figure out how the hell you pronounce it
