Doodles and Finished Pieces
Honestly, I don't think arceus is long enough yet.
there needs to be more "body" between the front and hind legs.
Not only that, but it looks a bit fat where the ring is.

Well I certainly feel dumb for not catching that... Sad

As for the doodle, I'm not particularily familiar with this Pokémon, bu it looks acurate to me. Smile

Made the body a bit longer. I think I might leave his midsection as it is for right now, though, unless a bunch of people think it should be smaller.

i consider this a doodle because i don't intend on finishing it (due to the fact that i fucked up on it virtually everywhere)

CRITTING A DOODLE

Stop doing the anime thing of treating the face like a flat surface. As it is her features look kind of glued on. I've noticed this quite a lot with you, actually. Lots of people do it (I'm still working out of it myself!)

As pretentious as it sounds, you need to teach yourself to see. Draw from life (I say this all the time but it's really the best way of picking this up) and pay particular attention to form. When you're drawing a person, try to look on them as objectively as possible. Don't look at someone's nose and go "I know how to draw noses!" and then stop referring to what's in front of you- treat each form as though it is completely alien to you.

There's really no quick way in picking up how to draw convincing faces. Aside from drawing some more objective drawings, try to do some planar studies and maybe look into how muscles in the face affect each other. You don't need to know every single muscle and its name, but learning to see the basic underlying shapes helps a lot.

One thing that I found to be kind of a help is to find an anatomical drawing (or a photo if you can find one) of the face muscles, and then try and draw your own face with reference to that.
Let me explain:
Start by drawing your basic skull shape- try and pay attention to where the bone is close to the skin- good 'landmarks' are your cheekbones, your chin, your temples and the bridge of your nose (which is cartilage not bone but WHATEVER).
Draw this lightly because otherwise the next bit will be harder than it needs to be.

Using the aforementioned reference image, try and work out the layout of the muscles on your own face- again, don't draw in every single muscle (there are hundreds, but look for simplified forms. This can get a little tricky, but take your time and don't be afraid to redraw things.

And as I say everywhere: observe. Look at how peoples faces work in real life - what muscle groups move when someone's happy? Or sad? How does wrinkling your nose affect the skin on your cheeks?

Even if your style never approaches photorealism, it's really important to understand how the face works to be able to do a convincing stylised image.
(This isn't really crit specific to that doodle, Tyvaughn, just a general thing based on what I've seen of your drawings, yeah? )

What happens when an illustration major gets really bored, is at his laptop with MS paint and no mouse, and is wasting time when he has much more important things to do? You get THIS monstrosity! Big Grin

And a not-as-crappy one. Still a doodle, but done with my tablet about a year ago I guess. Maybe not that long ago, I can never tell.

Something that isn't an Arceus! Anime proportions with attempted realistic-looking features.

None taken. That's part of the reason why I doodled it. I like to doodle things that come off as unsettling; not sure why.

Well done then; it's awesome.

Though... why is there a line through the lower half of the face?

The "where the nose goes" lines I assume?

Ah I see.

Also, thread is now stuck due to it being pretty much the only Creativity board topic that garners activity. Don't let me down!
