it's forum-related, so I figured I'd post it here
I'm currently hacking an NDS game, Japanese -> English translation. Is it OK to post the patch on the TSR forums (and possibly make a topic detailing its progress)?

I can't speak for the tSR staff, but game patches aren't illegal per se, so it should be ok.
I love fan translation patches for games that will obviously never get translated. I'll worship whoever does iM@S SP forever.

But it's actually a game that IS translated, but it's more like they took the engine, slapped completely different characters in it and called it a new game.
kinda like Doki Doki Panic
...it's a Naruto game :[
so the game as-is will never be released so instead they give us a poor excuse of a game with nearly all the content ripped out and a few new characters "to make up for it"
but yeah, it's mostly just an exercise in DS hacking. It's also to coincide with my comic Mangekyo Sharing Time, which ironically is a Naruto sprite comic made purely to spite every single Naruto fancomic in the history of its existence.

Bah, I was hoping for something like Doki Doki Majo Shinpan.
I don't see why not, though. (Just convince some other romhacker to at least extract the text from the iM@S PSP games)

No ideia. You see, most translation projects, even for games, stop when there is a official translation ongoing. So maybe it's OK.

This game's 100% text, that's why I'm doing it x3
I've got no problem with it

Didn't you know? It's illegal to patch games if you're under 13. It's the Law.
But seriously, 5205, make your own threads for your own questions unless they're logically related, otherwise that counts as 'thread hi-jacking'.
