Videogames you love, videogames you hate thread
i enjoyed the first smg significantly more than smg2

smg2 was ok, but i definitely didn't think making it even MORE linear was the right way to go

there were a lot of really brilliant levels in SMG2, and linear/open are not words synonymous with bad/good anyway (unless your purpose is to do one and in execution it ends up being the other, but the levels of SMG2 were very clearly designed with linearity in mind and they were done so well)

I don't get it. I've been on bad terms with Nintendo since the DS launch but played through Galaxy 1 after playing Galaxy 2 and being amazed and found Galaxy to be good, not great but good. But Galaxy 2? Come on - that's like the best 3D platforming we've had since Mario 64.

Mario Sunshine has things to hate, I mean the stupid big nose people, Fludd etc. but at the end of the day it was an OK game so I don't hate it. But saying that it's better than Mario Galaxy? That's like saying Yoshi's Island DS is better than the SNES original!

Sometimes you fans just flabbergast me...

(P.S: the DS sucks)

The things that you say are reasons to hate the game are personal opinions on the design of characters which I actually love. What was to hate about Fludd as well? I watched my friend play SMG and it didn't look like too much fun, while at the end of the day, I love SMS.

please tell me this is incorrectly phrased and you're referring to yoshi's island ds and not the ds itself

You know, I liked Yoshi's Island DS. The SNES game was better, of course... in fact it was superior in pretty much every way, but I remember enjoying the sequel.

I'm not just talking about the levels, though; everything that made SMG interesting outside of the level design was stripped away. I enjoyed the hub world in SMG1, and I liked how it was set up; how there were toads running around, and how Luigi would show up occasionally, etc. SMG2 had some interesting levels, but there was pretty much nothing else memorable to the game. SMG1 had pretty good levels AND a much better setting and aesthetics, which is what puts it on top for me.

Sunshine was the most atmospheric Mario game ever. It also was the closest you'll ever get to seeing an environment in Mario's world that is actually believable. I also enjoyed the citizens and watching them play and dance and get angry etc.

Not saying I personally do. I'm pretty neutral towards Sunshine - I'm just saying I can see why some people would hate it.

I really don't like the DS. Games like Layton and Phoenix aren't my bag, New SMB REALLY disappointed me in terms of difficulty and level design. It just didn't have the library I expected it to have. Platform games with some challenge, more good run n guns (aka not just Contra 4 - which was smegging awesome) - generally more classic 2D games (like a fucking Metroid one would have been nice). I can see why people like it, but with me it ended my Nintendo fan days and I became more of a Sony dude. God of War on the go, Monster Hunter and Exit just appealed a lot more. Having said that I am charging my DS right now ready for when Aliens: Infestation lands in my hands.

The whole game just stinks of cash-in. Those shitty looking Kangaroo and red Bull sprites also made me vomit. Not to mention they kind of drew over Yoshi's original YI sprites but added shitty legs - but then left enemies such as the Bandit with just feet. It was a mess of styles and looked ugly. With how brilliant the SNES game was it's pretty shitty of Nintendo to let the guy's who made Univeral Gravitation make ANOTHER Yoshi game. Yoshi deserved better. It's also shitty of Nintendo to make the GBA YI free on the 3DS but not the superior looking SNES one...

I hated Galaxy's Hub and was thankful for the the world map, I guess it's just personal preference and they're never going to please everyone. Galaxy 2's level design was just so brilliant it easily makes it the better game in my eyes.

A man who grows by eating mushrooms has never struck me as someone I care about seeing in a believable enviroment. I also hated those citizen guys and their hexagon noses and the fact they accused Mario of being evil when he's not blue and oily looking. Unless they're colour blind. At the time there stupidity offended me...
Sunshine just seemed to fall short in the design department and the use of Yoshi was pretty poor.

The one thing I do agree with you on is that Yoshi could've played a bigger and better role in Sunshine. You use him to spew juice at graffiti and jump high, that's all. He was fun to use when you had him though.

Lol never played Galaxy? Wow.. yeah I'd have to agree though, Sunshine was one of the better games. It was so much more challenging then any of the other games. Had such a unique design, of tropical settings, introduction of Yoshi in the 3D platforming games, could be the best colors Orange, Purple, and Pink.

Awesome enemy and character design that brought really good characters to the Mario series, just an overall awesome game..

I still think the worst thing about sunshine is flud
A Mario game with the same open level'd design and challenge would be awesome if it took place in like the mushroom kingdom but with out all this mid-air correction stuff like the spin in galaxy and flud or 64's bs factor

also, Wrath of Cortex

Believable as in a magical fantasy world, and not an obstacle course.

But anyway I kind of disliked how Donkey Kong Land 2 and 3 were mostly ports while the first Donkey Kong Land made all the effort to be an original game.

Yeah, the first one also had some damn awesome title screen music.
