Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Deebs - 06-12-2009

[SHEET IS HERE! IT'S REALLY BIG!]

Everyone who submits to this sheet who has their sprites added to the sheet will be credited. Please include a sprite of your personal character (if you have one) with your submissions so that they may added to the credit area. Finished sheet will be submitted to MFZ and Spriter's Resource.

RULES:
DO: Style edit! And I'm not just talking GBA sprites like Battle or Advance, but old skool sprites on Genesis and OTHER systems too! A note when style editing battle/advance sprites for this: these sprites are 120 times bigger than GBA sprites. This means sprites that are style edited need to be increased by a factor of 1.2. HANDS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SCALING- at least the battle ones. Battle sprites have hands that are already the right size. Advance ones are a tish too small, so scale those a bit up.
DO: Make animatable poses, if you can! It's not a requirement, but it makes the sheet cooler Smile
DO: Use the pallete provided! It keeps the sheet consistent and keeps me from having to back later and fix everything (trust me, it's really annoying)!
DO: Ask for help if you can't get something just right! Me or someone else is sure to help out!

DON'T: Give Sonic a gun or something. C'mon. This is Sonic, not Shadow. I don't care how many sheets have him with guns, it just doesn't make sense. I would of also included swords in this, but... well, with Black Knight coming out Tongue
DON'T: Claim other people's work as your own. But this should be obvious.
DON'T: Whine.

LIST OF POSES:
  • Standing
  • Walk
  • Run
  • Jump (up)
  • Jump (down)
  • Spindash
  • Shocked pose
  • Hurt
  • Emotion Heads
  • Gestures
  • Ducking
  • Hanging
  • Character specific actions
  • Character specific fighting moves
  • Character specific vehicles/gear
Lets roll sprite!

NOTICE: SPRITES WITH MANGLED PALLETS WILL NO LONGER BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THOSE PALLETS ARE FIXED.
Pallet mangling occurs either when:
-You upload a .tiff
-Copy and paste a sheet from EI.

Only you can prevent pallet mangling.

Love those chilly dog poses.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Deebs - 06-24-2009

A great resource by the NinjaRaccoon from MFS. Should be very helpful in letting people know what has and hasn't been done.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Flare - 06-25-2009

Hmm, did a edit of the big artwork.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Deebs - 06-25-2009

That's very nice actually, however I was specifically avoiding a lined style when I made it (and all the other pixel arts for these projects are the same). Basically that pixel art is just a blown up (300x) and cleaned up sprite, with the same features and general shading as the smaller sprite.

Though, your edit of it does point out that the middle spine could maybe use some tinkering.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Deebs - 07-07-2009

Update with a poll. Please respond.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - SpencerEX - 07-07-2009

I choose C, but maybe the mouth could be moved a lil more to the front, but that's just my opinion Tongue

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Techokami - 11-04-2009

I decided to tweak the sprite a bit for the hell of it:
A) First off, a few colors in the palette were incorrect. You're shooting for a Genesis style, so use valid Genesis colors damnit! Tongue All RGBs should be multiples of 32, lowest being 0 and highest being 224 (E0).
B) To be quite honest, I really do not like the silver shine on Sonic. It looks really, really off. I can see where you were comming from with the "broken" palette version on the sheet, but using grays made it not translate so well. I took them off, and IMHO it looks a bit better. I also added in the green color from the Sonic 3K palette, and if you zoom in on the top right corner you'll see the palette organized the exact same way as in Sonic 3K.
C) Because there is a valid slot for a green color, I readded the green iris. I used the broken palette version as a reference.
D) I said "hell with it" and changed the blues to be the same as Sonic 3K's. Doesn't seem to work as well, however.

I have a feeling someone is probably going to chew me out for not liking it being shiny, but you can add back in the green iris to Sonic's eyes and not exceed the 16 color palette.

Also, voting A for the poll.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Aquaslash - 11-05-2009

I've been toying with the idea of actually putting these in S3K, and thus finishing the set for that game, but yeah, as Techokami said, you gotta keep the RGB values right. There's also the whole bit of Sonic and tails, and Knuckles and Tails sharing palettes when in use. Might hamper other characters just a bit.

Also, I would notion against the iris color, since it'd be thoroughly impossible to get everyone's in, unless you:
a. moved to the 32x, which can display multiple characters on the screen
b. reworked the whole games so that characters could use as many colors as possible (this would likely call for disabling co-op or making custom color schemes)
c. Gave certain characters the Heroes type Super States that are merely an aura (Knuckles benefits the most from this)

Either way, it doesn't seem worth the effort.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Nintendo_6444 - 11-06-2009

I think it was meant to be in a Genesis style, but not using the exact same colours.

1) Only Sonic and Tails share a palette. Knuckles uses the second palette line for cutscenes, and replaces the blues in the first palette if Knuckles is the player. Because of this, it is not possible to use Deebs' Knuckles in S3K because it uses too many greens. Tongue
2) Yeah, what unoriginal name man said, but even with just the S3K palette, the sprite looks really nice. Deebs will probably be adding it to the sheet :>

Anti-Sonic post-Scourge.

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Baegal - 11-10-2009

why post scourge in a SONIC thread?

RE: Sonic the Hedgehog (SEGA) - Ton - 11-10-2009

Also, that's awful.
