Doesn't Cthulu have a tail? Or is it beyond my earthly comprehension?

RE: Doodles and Finished Pieces. - Chutzpar - 02-23-2011

I really don't know off the top of my head! It's been sort of a while since I've read any of the Cthulhu stories. Where's Jesus Lizard when you need him?

Halfway between a doodle and a serious picture because I kinda just went whatever on some of the lines and didn't bother to shade.
(Half dead half living mermaid how preposterous.)

Watercolor pencils part 2

Are you layering your colours much? It looks to me like you're doing pencilwork and then just brushing over. Try applying a wash with conventional watercolours as a base (doing washes using watercolour pencils is horrid), and try to build up in solid sections of colour. Say, on the headscarf, don't think of the scarf and its shadows as distinct, lay out a base colour for the entire scarf and then put your shadows on the top. It helps to unify the colours more c:

It can also sometimes be interesting to do an underpainting where you work up some basic tone using only one colour, and then paint colours over the top of that. c:

HEEEEAAAAADDDDDDSSSSSSS

but the guy on the top right: his head looks kind of horizontally squished. Was that intentional?
