But seriously wow, I wasn't expecting this detailed of a response! I understand all but one thing now: how does opacity jitter work if you're using a mouse where the pressure is always the same instead of a tablet?

Otherwise I feel pretty inspired now and with this technique I think I can actually make art that I can feel completely proud of. Thank you very much Baegal for all your help and for taking your time to help me out. I feel like I've already improved today. Big Grin
Sadly, (as far as I know), you can't use opacity jitter on a mouse. Even so, it's not the end of the world--You can still make stuff, it'll just take a little longer.
Glad that helped! I for some reason really enjoyed writing that up :>

i'd work more on giving expresions to your characters. they're a important as body language.

dont be afraid to exagerate

Lexou, you are getting better, but your women are lacking hips.

Here is an edit:
As you can see, the bottom of the ribcage is very close to crests of the pelvic bone.
To give a pose life, you have to think of it as a source of tension and relaxation: for instance, leaning on one leg or another, using an arm to lean on something, leaning forward to walk/run/jump/etc: you also have to consider the centre of gravity, so that the limbs can be placed accordingly. It's a succession of curved and straight lines.
In my edit you may notice that I made the supporting arm more or less straight, whilst the one holding the glass is like one tight curve. The waist is on one side a line broken at ~90°, and the other is a gentle curve. I modified the pose to bring the glass closer to her body but also raising it, which , coupled with the existing stare to the side, could imply an interaction with a character we cannot see (keeping the content of the glass away from him/her).

I hope it helps! Smile

Actually Chris i sent the drawing to my drawing teacher along with your criticism, check out what he replied :

"pas mal mais comme souvent il a oublié l’essentiel... c’est une fille... COURBES bon sang ! COURBES
corriger l'anat sans se soucier des courbes c'est l'erreur de tous les ''non'' animateurs ^^"

tl;dr: the curves, man. THE CURVES

RE: Doodles and Finished Pieces. - Chris2Balls [:B] - 10-06-2012

Wow, thank you and your teacher Lexou! I made a few more sketches to make things a bit clearer and make my edit a bit more dynamic:
I put in blue the curve/straight dynamics, and green is the force creating balance in the pose. I messed around with them with various results :B

I'm digging your stuff, Lexou!

Quick Photoshop question (again), does anyone know how to get sharper lines using smaller brushes? Anything smaller than size 4 is really light and blurry...

Well there shouldn't be much reason for you to use size 4 in the first place
you should draw big

very big

RE: Doodles and Finished Pieces. - Kami - 10-07-2012

^The bigger the better. You'll be able to put more details and shading into it.
