Paper Toy - Mabelma - 02-22-2009

Well I saw the other topic and I too a liking to this new friends and I made my own Mario.
It's not as good as the other ones but it's because I had to trace it I don't know the proper method making them.
C+C on them and tell me if you like them.
Use them and if you have any request I might do it.
But remember I'm still learning the sacred art of customizing the paper dude.
Template was gotten from here.

Yeah, don't think that's going to work...
I mean, his whole chest is at the bottom of his head, you won't even be able to see it.

RE: Paper Toy - Mabelma - 02-22-2009

No it does work cause that's just he's straps and neck and the other part is his clothes.
Do you guys like him?

RE: Paper Toy - GrooveMan.exe - 02-22-2009

Frankly? No. Poorly drawn, wouldn't work correctly in practice.

For example his hat. Only viewable from the front. You didn't think this through, did you?

RE: Paper Toy - Mabelma - 02-22-2009

Actually no.
I'm still learning and the dude that makes them awesome is not on so he won't teach me.
Google has nothing on them and neither does youtube.

So, uh
practice
see what works and what doesn't for yourself.
That's kind of how you improve at anything.

but anyone should be able to visualise how a cube fits together. Really.

I'm a bit stupid sorry.
Anyways I think that customizing the pd is not about tracing or drawing I think is more of a copy paste but let's see what happens.

hope that helps

It looks like when you were making him you were only thinking in one direction. You have to look at each of the sides individually.
Like
When you're working on the side of the face, for example, you should really be thinking of it as the side of the face, not just a bit that's next to the face. Of course it has to connect well to the other bits, but yeah. idk, i can't explain it that well cause i suck

Anyway. There's a shitload of things wrong with your Mario. As Grooveman said, the hat is wrong. You should be able to see the entire front of the hat on the face square. The top square should have a bird's eye (from above) view of the hat. Listen to Rakia as well. The straps + buttons should be on the body, not under the face. That's pretty much the bottom of the chin. There should just be skin there. His ears should be closer to the middle. They don't have to be right in the center, but you don't want them right next to his face. His hair shouldn't cover his entire face. Some skin should be visible too. The face square doesn't need the red to shape his face. It should just be his skin color.

and yeah

The style you drew it in is pretty terrible lookin'.
