RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Greiga Master - 01-04-2013

No but you don't see it? If you wanted to drop that bowser in a new environment now its going to have this dark teal shadow that wouldn't make sense anymore. As an exaggerated example if you were to move him to a green background

suddenly the shadow has an off and obvious teal hue to it because its blended to a teal background. Now if this were on a transparent background it would be fine but it doesn't look like it is.

Isn't the shadow just the same gray color on every background?

In battle it's partially transparent.

If you need a program that supports transparency, I think GIMP works. Not sure of any others that don't have annoying interfaces (Paint.NET).

RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Ridge Troopa - 01-05-2013

The point of including the shadow is not to have something that looks translucent on the background. It's just so it's there. Most battle sheets already on the archive have this, we've been ripping them practically like this since the start of the project.

If you wanted to use the shadows as intended, it's as easy as opening in GIMP or Paint.NET, selecting the color, painting black, 50% transparency. It's not as if I didn't have this in mind when I added them. You can trust me, I'm not that dense.

I actually know how to remedy this with any transparent or semi-transparent image on an opaque background. In GIMP, at least. You can select the shadows using Color Selection, then go to Colors -> Color to Alpha. Then just select the background color (in this case teal, i.e. 99d9ea) and it'll remove the teal from the shadow, giving you the semi-transparent black shadow.

That's what I used to get the blurry white outline of "©2011 LEVEL-5 Inc." on this sheet, since it was on the same layer as its black background, and as far as I can tell it works perfectly. Not sure how to do it in Photoshop or Paint.NET, but it should be similar.

By the way, should I do the Mario sheets in the same style as Ridge's Bowser one? And if so, should I include his rare idle animation (the bit where he lifts his leg, happens every 3 loops or so) on the same line and say when it happens or on its own line?

RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Ton - 01-05-2013

I like to separate the animations. Plus, it won't make the sheet as big lengthwise. I'd say put it on a new row.
And I'm ambivalent on shadows. I know they're ot technically part of the sprite, but they help with animating and they're one shade, so they're super easy to remove. Do what you want. Tongue

RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Ridge Troopa - 01-05-2013

For consistency's sake, you may as well use the style I came up with on Bowser's for Mario's sheets. You can probably tell that everything still fits in tiles, even the text boxes, so that it loads perfectly into an animation programs as a filmstrip.

I put parts of the same animations on the same line if possible to use less space and reduce filesize. Cropping animations so the width of the sheet is better left for later, though, as you'll never know what dimensions are best unless you have all the animations on one image first.

Ultimately it doesn't matter that much if you separate parts of animations on different rows, but if you move them to the same row do as I did - indicate where a loop or quirk starts, how many loops it plays, etc.

Here's a little something to get us started. I'm probably not gonna be able to get any more for a while cause I'll be busy with my own things, so I'll leave the rest to you guys!

Got them~

RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - A.J. Nitro - 01-06-2013

Mighty, you should be able to already upload Bowser's 3 minions found in the ZIP, Sergeant Guy, Private Goomp and Corporal Paraplonk.

RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Garamonde - 01-06-2013

I haven't beat the game so I only know what Paraplonk looks like... (or I just don't remember) these guys right? Also no Paraplonk has two sheets of sprites plus one with blue sprites. Also, icons please~

The Goomba and the Shy Guy are correct. Paraplonk on the other hand, I have no idea why he has two sheets. I checked them both and they're the exact same. Maybe Greiga made a copy by accident. As for the blue one, possibly an unused pallet would be my guess.

RE: The Official M&L3 Ripping Project *WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS* - Garamonde - 01-06-2013

Maybe I'll arrange them then. Give me a few minutes.

Wait, the goomba and shy guy are colored wrong. The goomba is blue, and the shy guy is green
