SMW Squiggler Sprites (mario custom) - Tankofyah - 09-10-2023

I made these sprites for the enemy Squiggler (from New Super Mario Bros) in the Super Mario World style. Any idea why it got rejected? What could I do to make it look better? (i had vertical sprites in but I removed them for now and also when I submitted it, it was more organized)

What does the rejection message say? Also, is that the entirety of the sprite sheet?

It said that it doesn’t meet the quality standards for a sprite sheet in the customs section. Basically nothing else. Also, those are basically the only important sprites (as you can see in my message there are some vertical sprites that aren’t on there)

Without seeing the actual sheet I can't really give feedback as to why the sheet as a whole may have been rejected. It may have been due to the quality of the sprites, it may have been due to the format of the sheet.

As for improvements to the sprites themselves, you want them to look like Super Mario World sprites right? Be sure to study how shading works in that style. Since Squigglers are essentially tiny Wigglers you'll want to be sure to look at the SMW Wiggler Sprite Sheet to check its coloration and shading specifically. If you are matching the style, you'll probably want to make sure you are using the Wiggler color palette as well (which is provided on this sheet).

It may also be useful to compare the scaling of your Squiggler to other elements within Super Mario World. Would Squiggler be the smallest enemy in the game? If so, how small would be too small for the player to actually see? How can you modify the sprite to ensure it is always visible to the player? What sort of levels does Squiggler show up in? How does your sprite look within those levels?
