Need help ripping stages from OutRun 2006 - Soup'um - 01-14-2023

I've been trying to rip stages from the PC version of OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, but I can't find any way to open the .sz files OutRun 2006 seems to use.

According to PCGW, OutRun 2006 uses Sumo Digital's Sunshine Engine, which a couple of other games that have been successfully ripped from also use (like Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing or Doctor Who: The Adventure Games) but they seem to use completely different file formats. There also aren't any identifiable headers or clues when looking at the files in a hex editor, which rules out hexing any files contained within, although it does suggest .sz files are compressed, encrypted or otherwise obfuscated.

I also have the PSP and PS2 versions of Outrun 2006, but no luck. The PS2 version has a few .PS2 files named after the folders the PC versions uses, while the PSP version just has one big .PSP file called "ALL". I'm assuming these file are themselves just archives of the .sz files.

The only method that seems to work is using NinjaRipper, but Outrun 2006 also uses aggressive culling, so it'd be quite time-consuming to attempt to piece each stage back together.

I've uploaded some .sz files so you can see them for yourself: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ycJ3NC8GxpgPEwjrod8Kff-081vLU7A9?usp=share_link

Any help with this would be much appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Small update: For some reason I didn't think to just type "outrun" ".sz" into Google without any extra parameters. Anyway, I found a download for a .sz extractor tool (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=147131.0). After following the instructions and extracting one of the .sz archives that corresponds to model files, it produced a bunch of .dds files, a .dat file and a .xtx file. The .dat seems to be some type of header/info file, while a separate thread by the dev of the extraction tool (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130891.msg1348139.html#msg1348139) claims the .xtx file is some sort of combination texture and model file in original Xbox format.

However, I can't seem to find any tool that can process .xtx files. I've uploaded one to the google drive link above if anyone would like to look at it.

I didn't try it personally so i can't say for sure it will help you, but i found this link https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-view-xtx-image-files.621290/ with a question similar to yours, linking to an XTX extractor on github. Maybe it could be of help? Hope it is anyway!

Sorry for the late reply, somehow my notification settings got mixed up.

Unfortunately, this tool is for switch texture files (which apparently share the same extension). I tried running it anyway and it came up with an invalid file header error, which is to be expected.

Thanks for trying to help, though.
