How do I rip assets from a 3DS game WITHOUT EXTRACTING THE ROMFS - hobqueer - 05-24-2022

Hi there,

So, over the past few days, I have been trying to rip models from the Style Savvy 3ds games.

As some people who may be familiar with the game's files know, the CPK file for the character and clothing models (character_model.cpk), is a mess. Once you extract the files from it, you get well over 2000 unknown file types all with the name "a".

Analyzing the extracted files with a hex editor reveals that they DO in fact have a file header, but if you rename the files type to match said header, no programs recognize it.

So, seeing that the extracted files are a bunch of bullshit, and knowing that the game still somehow reads those files properly as model and texture files, I was wondering if there was a way to rip the models from the game in real time, AFTER they have been loaded into the game.

Like, the game HAS to convert them to models SOMEHOW, how else would they be able to display them???

Thanks!!!

You can not. model data is stored in the ROMFS (otherwise it'd cause RAM issues)
