This is basically what Sonic 4 should have been.

I feel like I'm going to get a lot of shit for saying it, but I thought Sonic 4 was actually ok. Just ok. It really didn't turn out at all the way fans wanted, but I still found it fun. The music was ok enough and aside from the over use of boost pads, it was a decent experience. not one I'd say I'm eager to jump back into any time soon, but I didn't hate it.

Although I'm also one of the few people that actually like Lost World, so maybe my opinion isn't really worth much :p

Only two more days before I can finally play Mania. The wait is killing me...

RE: rev up the sonic cycle: Sonic Mania - Dolphman - 08-29-2017

Well the PC version's out. Unfortunately. It contains Denuvo DRM, which I've heard is notorious for doing horrible stuff.
This made me worried, so I ended up uninstalling the game in fear of what would happen.
It has gotten so bad, even Aaron Webber is siding with the consumers over it! [LINK]

What exactly is Denuvo DRM, is it some sort of virus?

RE: rev up the sonic cycle: Sonic Mania - miyabi95_ - 08-30-2017

basically requires users to be online to play a game. it's required for a lot of recent AAA titles recently, including tekken 7.

to be honest this doesn't really surprise me considering the mobile ports of sonic 1, 2 and CD require internet access. which is why this whole fiasco doesn't make a lotta sense to me.

I don't remember the mobile ports requiring internet, but I don't get why they did that for the PC release.

Denuvo also constantly writes data onto your disk to test for piracy, which actually wears your HDD out faster than normal. No one likes dead HDDs

RE: rev up the sonic cycle: Sonic Mania - Filler - 09-01-2017

As much as I'm not a big Sonic person (just never played them, don't judge me). I have some things to say:

-Sonic Mania looks nice, but from what I can see, it reuses a lot from older games, and sorta remixes it in with new content.

-The animation in Mania is gorgeous, some of the best sprite work I've seen in awhile.

-The whole DRM thing confuses me. As Steam already has DRM, and slapping DRM on DRM sounds both like a waste of time, and space. It's like having 2 anti-viruses at once.

Meanwhile, I went in completely oblivious to the whole drama that spurred because of this... and got my AV thinkin' the executable itself is malicious hardware. I'm not even kiddin'.

I'm guessing even McAfee doesn't like this Denuvo thing that much, huh. Still, JEEZ this hog can't catch a break, can he?

RE: rev up the sonic cycle: Sonic Mania - Dolphman - 09-02-2017

The DRM was all Sega of Europe's fault. They tried to blame the team to which Stealth called them out in a now deleted post.

Ah yes. That. Was wonderin' if someone was gonna bring that bit up, or the fact that this was appearently done without SoA or SoJ knowing a dang thing.

Who, if my sources are correct, also happen to be just as miffed as everyone else about this, might I add.

...Ah well. Just to play safe, I've un-installed the game for now (It's still in my library) and ran a full AV scan for good measure. Guess I'll wait until either this is solved, or someone finds some sort of trick to play it without this Denuvo kickin' in.

EDIT: Or I can just say "Screw this" and, after some deliberation, undo my impulsive move, put in for a refund (Which arrived in record time, btw) and stick back to the original plan for Mania. It's not like I would've been able to, y'know, play the game anytime soon anyway.

Either way, this experience more or less taught me a very valuable lesson, and an observation I'm sure many have already thrown by this point.

1. There's a reason why I usually stick to consoles when it comes to Sonic games. This wasn't it, though it's now a definite close second.

2. Readin' up on this entire controversy, I'm just... Wow. Simply wow. So not only do you stuff the game with potentially dangerous malware behind everyone else's back, but then you try and weasel out of the fact that yeah, ya done goof'd royal, and then pin it on the devs...

...Which is doubly stupid when you consider that you're also pinnin' it on, oh I don't know, IIZUKA

WHO WORKED WITH WHITEHEAD AND THE OTHERS TO BRING THIS GAME TO LIFE

Sweet merciful funknuggets. Forget the Darwin awards, that is some serious 1000 Ways to Die worthy jitt right there.

...So just to recap for those who, like me, missed it. SEGA had something legit good going, with Mania meeting near-universal acclaim on the console front... and then SoE screwed the pooch royal on the PC front. G.J., SoE. G. effin' J.
