RE: Peanut People - E-Man - 06-02-2016

As a Tumblr user, I can tell you that there's not a whole lot to it. Just drag your photos into the post and write a description. As for the tags, I'd say that you start off with "#Peanut People" and then create additional tags for each character.

Alright, thanks for the info. I was expecting there to be some strange or preferable formatting, but this is good to know. I don't wanna be click-baity and I'm not sure if I even could be given what this is.

Let's Speak English is in Black and White so I will digital this, but it shouldn't be much different from this.

I don't think I'm going to be continuing this in its current state. My hand kills me by the time I'm done with these, and I don't feel that colorizing them adds much and may diminish from the original drawing. Thoughts?

RE: Peanut People - Hiynastrike - 06-26-2016

I feel personally that the mixed bag sheets you did earlier were better than the single ones, but coloring is up to you, I hope your hand feels better

RE: Peanut People - Kosheh - 06-26-2016

I keep saying I'm gonna post here with crit and then I keep writing up the post and then I forget to submit it and it's really frustrating. So I'm gonna sit down and submit this goddamn post. It's a lot to swallow, but maybe I'll keep it short and sweet i dunno lol

You're killing your hand for a few reasons

- you're pressing way too hard - lighten up the pressure on both the paper and your pencil when you draw. it should make things easier to erase, too since your lines are lighter.
- you're drawing with your wrist, not your arm, which is what's causing you to strain so hard while drawing. doing these two things will put less stress on your hand while drawing.
- you're drawing these peanut people too small, making it really hard to read their individual details (see your WoW Chromie peanut for what I mean)
- you're trying to cram too many peanut people on one page. drawing with your arm will also cause you to make bigger, swifter lines

try only drawing like 10 peanut people per page instead of like 24.
also, you might want to consider using a ruler, here's why:

Notice the vast difference in the size of their heads despite how the size of their bodies are about the same?
(also, the four bullets from above are...kinda in reference to Chromie.
You're able to somehow freehand Sonic with no issues and no need to erase and that's pretty impressive lmao)

Using a ruler will allow you to...like, for instance, separate Peanut People into three segments for consistency - head, torso, and...legs? Draw three lines across the page (landscape orientation) and you should be able to fit 5 characters within those lines, no problem. Repeat again for another 5 to fit on that page.

Hooray for consistency!

You'll notice that with much less Peanut People per page, you'll be able to draw finer details on them, too. And if you're not squeezing the dang pencil still, you should still be OK to pull out another page and draw 10 more if you feel so inclined ;P

RE: Peanut People - psychospacecow - 06-26-2016

Reason for Chromie was my hand killing me already from doing the entire page up to that point and I couldn't find any official hard line references since its a 3d model and the 2d stuff was painting - esc.

I'll try to keep this stuff in mind though. Pencil pressure has always been an issue for me on account of having less overall control with my hands than most people. Its part of the reason why I don't try and gitgud with Skullgirls.

Trying this out again because I'm still proud of it, just doing it bigger now. How'd I do?

RE: Peanut People - Gors - 11-22-2016

I'll be honest and say that this makes no sense

I mean, it's amusing in the first 2 pages but the novelty of making characters with peanut shaped bodies is rather weird on its own. Usually, extremely stylized characters like those are made for a "single page project" with related characters because it has a small "curiosity span". Creating any more than that is ok if you're either making a "sequel" to Funko Pop or Nendoroid, which are meant to be mass-produced and consistent so you can have a neat collection of figures

This being said, usually those types of art will often employ vector art such as this set of matryoshkas:

Because vector allows you to repurpose the outline rather easily and maintain style and consistency between pieces. Due to this, you should also go for a more cartoony looking style for all characters so that

and

look from the same "peanut people" series.

If you need some inspo here's a set of various characters done in Kokeshi-styled Japanese dolls:

Still i'm not fond of those weird projects but nonetheless i wish you luck. Just try adding more design elements to make them look good to look at.

On the upperside, you're using 3-segmented peanut husks instead of the classic 2-segmented peanut husks everyone loves to draw. Peanuts actually has a higher chance of coming with 3 nuts instead of 2.

RE: Peanut People - psychospacecow - 11-22-2016

I just started this as an excuse to practice drawing heads and make a chibi style doodle. It was just received well enough to continue.

I'd consider doing it with a template, but the point was imitating different styles, so its a hand drawing. Maybe something to consider when digitizing.

Peanut was just easier to convey than "Snow Man" at the time for some reason.

RE: Peanut People - Gors - 11-22-2016

i think you should invest time in making more human-like body for testing, because going full simplistic might be problematic when you actually draw full body drawings.

not that peanut people is an inherently bad project - but trying to get better by doing simplistic drawings will make you better at drawing simplistic stuff, not the opposite way. Try making limbs and play with posing, even if you suck, in fact the more you suck at first the more you can improve in the long run.

You can keep making peanut people while you work on better anatomy/doodling skills, one thing doesn't exclude the other. Ultimately, you have to enjoy what you do and thus, seek what interests you more, while ofc challenging you to do bigger tasks once in a while

RE: Peanut People - psychospacecow - 11-22-2016

Of course, I'm not trying to animate or do anything overly impressive with my busted hands. Its just a hobby that sometimes gets some smiles out of people, and that's good enough for me.

RE: Peanut People - Hiynastrike - 11-22-2016

it's definitely improved your line control

I'm not so proud of this one. My hand gave out a few times so its really inconsistent.

its been done a few days but I wasn't sure whether or not it was worth posting.
