Clamped texture tutorial - Peardian - 10-23-2015

Someone asked me for help regarding what to do about ripping Nintendo 64 models, since they usually have lots of weird texture issues.

I want this to be as helpful as possible, so feedback would be appreciated. Keep in mind, this tutorial assumes you know what UVs are and how to modify them.

You're on the right track there! The reason the mouth looks squished like that is because you haven't fixed the UVs yet. You made the mouth twice as tall, so now you have to shrink the height of the UVs to half.

Meshlab does this automatically when you use the N64 VRML exporter, but the only download is on Sourceforge, which now injects their software with malware, now.

If anyone has a safe Meshlab download, then N64 rips could be miles more user-friendly.

I used to be able to use Meshlab to export my models, but I sadly lost it when I got a new computer and didn't back it up.

EDIT: There's some software that allows you to export certain games:

-Banjo's Backback allows you to export BK models.

-GoldenEye Setup Editor and it's Perfect Dark variant can export PD and GE models. I actually didn't use this because it's too big of an install to care of.

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Rabino - 10-24-2015

so... i installed this meshlab on a virtual machine, so even if theres a malware on the program, it won't affect my computer... what do i do now? XD
imported the file that i got using the 1964 emulator method and i got this

Really? I used to get proper texture results.

What version of 1964? I used ultra-fast, and I used Lemmie's VRML exporter.

Edit: Here's the Tank from GoldenEye that I ripped, awhile, I did nothing to edit the textures, and they all fit and work proper (I just need to fix transparent textures). I did export it with kHED, which may caused some differences.

(Also, could you give a Meshleb download mirror so I could use and test it?)

2nd edit, Here's the version of the VRML exporter I used on 1964 Ultra-fast. Is this a different version?

--edit

yeah... its the same one

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Filler - 10-24-2015

Could you give it in a zipped folder? Cause after the malware stuff I went thru to install Project 64, I never trusted installers from the internet again.

Also, what game is the model from, because I could give it a try.

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Rabino - 10-24-2015

i only have the installer, the game is Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time, you should enable "always adult link" and "press R/L for levitation" cheats because you only find the angry version of guru guru way later in the game, and with those cheats you get there in minutes, then you go to Kakariko village, and enter the windmill

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Filler - 10-24-2015

Alright, gonna take a risk of downloading it.

And OOT, I'll do it after Meshlab downloads.

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Rabino - 10-24-2015

k, thank you very much in advance for taking your time to help me Big Grin

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Filler - 10-24-2015

Found an old HDD to risk-free install on.

Gonna use it for a ZIP. Also, pretty sure you can edit the texture's on the model to get the angry variant.

So I downloaded Meshlab and transferred it from an USB from an old HDD to a new one. And guess what? All the rips shown up correct for me (Execpt for OOT and Majora's Mask)

Here's a couple (Rendered in kHED to soften polygons)

Bond (May upload the VG resource)

Conker BFD beetle

It seems OOT and Majora's Mask seem to have these texture issues. I guess they used a special format to render them.

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Rabino - 10-24-2015

well... rip my hopes and dreams, my only chance now is the tutorial, but i got stuck at the UV setting stuff... welp

RE: Clamped texture tutorial - Filler - 10-24-2015

Guru is already ripped on the VG resource, so just edit the model and switch the textures to the angry faces (which can be exported via VRML)
