This is what I am currently looking at. 400 of this is being covered by family due to the time of year and my birthday, but the rest is on me. Know any comparable but cheaper, or better things I should consider? I'm not good with specs so there's that.
Also, sorry in advance if there's a better spot for this.

What do you want to do with it?

If you want to be the cool guy, still want a Lenovo machine, and want to play the video game, I would suggest looking at the Lenovo Y line.

I'm typing right now on a Lenovo Y500. By no means is this future-proof, but it's played every game I've chucked at it pretty smoothly. The ones currently out have better mobile chipsets and graphics cards, though - Nvidia ShadowPlay doesn't work on my machine, but does on the next machine up ):

(rest assured, that's any of the Y laptops that isn't mine)

If you want a gaming pc and are willing to spend that much. Then I suggest this site: http://elitegamingcomputers.com/gaming-computers/

This site has a complete step by step tutorial (especially made for newbies) along with the neccessary item lists that you need to build your own pc that can throw any pc for the same price in the dust. You could use it for more than just games too. Model ripping and stuff that require tons of resources can be done on these.

Bigger question is do you even wanna play games with it, or do you want it just for school stuff?

... I forgot I posted this.

ordered this.

Its for gaming and school.

It was being phrased as a birthday/Christmas sort of thing so there was a bit of a rush to order.

Thanks man, I'll keep that in mind next time I need to upgrade the big box next to me. My main PC has about 1,300 poured into it over the last year so it can handle pretty much everything at a reasonable level. I probably should have specified this stuff now that I think about it...

Also, sorry for wasting your time. I forgot I had posted this thread and my dad ordered the one I was looking at at the time today.
