Boredom and curiosity. - link5205 - 12-13-2014

So its been over four years since I've posted anything new on this site. Right now I'm working on designing my own game from composing the music, programming it, to creating the pixel art. I'm usually hard at work but sometimes I get side tracked and try to sprite something that's irrelevant to my games creation. I randomly decided to re-create an old sprite of mine and I was curious to see what people might think. If something like this happens again I'll post it here.

So are you trying to go for more of a neon palette? Because it reminds me of the Bowser from the last battle In SM64. And I think the teeth are a tad hard to notice if you ask me. At first it looked like he was doing a weird pout thing. Also is it just me? Or does his snout look like a human nose or duck bill?

The body on the left side looks weird, but the face on the right side looks weird. I think if you mixed the face from the left side and the body from the right side, then just unify the color/shading style, it'd be a really good-looking sprite.

I fixed his face, added more details and a jumping animation. he was originally inspired by the Mario 64 Bowser but I really like the more vibrant colors. I might make a more 64 like palette in the future. I'm getting side tracked but making this Bowser is so fun ! Sad

No, what I mean is the shape of the head on the right one looks weird. If the head from the left was put on the right, then just recolored to match, it would look way better. The right one has this weird grin that just looks goofy.

I think the super vibrant colors are fine, but the issue (to me, at least) is with with the neon blue lines. They're so bright and used in so many places that would normally be dark (a lot of outlines and such) to the point where it almost makes them seem like highlights and makes most of the sprite look strange.

It's kind of like he's meant to be in the movie Tron with such bright highlights.
Having a bright palette is cool but I'd suggest changing the brighter blue shades to something else or at the very least making them a lot darker because they stand out too much to me and kind of overtake the actual highlights. It has too much contrast, I guess.

I find that a fair observation. What wasn't a fair observation on my part was that I put one of his thumbs under his leg in the last image.

I think Bowser's left/farthest hand should be turned a little. It kinda looks like it's going under his chin.

Probably a bit like this.

Here's the thing you asked after quite a while. I decided to work on this Browser sprite until I'm content with it before I work on the other animations for it after which I will add shadows for the arms, head, and legs relative to there positions on the sprite. I say this because I'd like as many critiques and ideas that could improve this sprite as possible for when I come back to it (which should be much sooner then it took this time). I also took away some of the colors used to define the fingers because I think the lighting does a fine enough job as well as making things look more clean.
