Yeah, but the lines are definitely worth saving! Just go into Aseprite, and in the fill tool, you'll see an option that says "contiguous". Uncheck that, and it'll fill every pixel of the color you click on. You'll be able to quickly deshade your sprites using this, allowing you to preserve the lineart and not have to redraw them completely, because seriously, those sprites look good; it would be a real shame to throw them all away.

Not everything is Scrapped. I'm just going to redo Some frames (The Idle and The walking as examples)

Her face doesn't look right, really. You seem to be having some trouble with proportional humans' faces.
Her hair also needs some texture and the staff looks too flat on top.

That's true. I don't sprite humans pretty much.

Yeah they're tough. Characters like Villager are easier because they're not proportional. Listen to some of the people here, though. They won't steer you wrong.

No face here

Looking at the previous versions...

God Lord..

RE: Lisnovski's SSB4 Newcomers. - Pik - 02-22-2015

They look certainly traced from the 3DS version to me, especially that Villager animation. The new Mac does look a whole lot better, though.

Also, get outta here with that "I don't take comments" stuff! I know everyone is telling you that, but that's because it's true man

Yes.

Well, at least you admit it

RE: Lisnovski's SSB4 Newcomers. - E-Man - 02-22-2015

If you read one of the first posts in this thread, he mentioned that he only looked at the 3DS for reference instead of blatantly tracing game footage. Since I was the one who asked him about it in the first place, I simply took what he said with a grain of salt and said nothing else.

It definitely explains why the sprites look almost identical to how the characters look in the Smash Bros. games.

RE: Lisnovski's SSB4 Newcomers. - DragonDePlatino - 02-22-2015

Lisnovski, the reason people don't like it when you trace is because when you trace things from games, you do not learn how to animate. You learn how to follow images pixel-by-pixel, but not good principles of animation like motion blur, anticipation, arcing, etc. So when you animate by tracing, you can only animate things that already exist and that hurts you as an artist in the long run.

RE: Lisnovski's SSB4 Newcomers. - E-Man - 02-22-2015

Continuing what DragonDePlatino said, the other reason why tracing isn't welcomed is due to how simple/easy it is to pull off. If tracing is that impressive of a skill, then this world will be flooded with "artistic geniuses." We'd be more impressed if you actually took the time to create all these assets yourself and quite possibly put your own spin on them.

So what if your sprites are not perfect if you work without tracing? We all have to start somewhere and even the best of us were rubbish starting out.
