It's particularly due to the small resolution of the 3DS's screen that makes it appear that way.

True. I bet the reason the textures look so stretched and pixellated/blurry is because I'm playing it on a 3DS XL.

I'm pretty sure the game does not employ texture filtering that you'll see applied by default in most 3D software.
