Is he really going to stick to that claim even after what happened to Sticker Star? It'll be bad news if the next Paper Mario game embraces the negative changes Miyamoto placed on the fourth game in the first place. Otherwise, the game series is actually kaput.

Also, if Miyamoto doesn't like story so much, then why is Mario & Luigi: Dream Team safe from this kind of involvement? If it was during early development that other publishers drew the line for Miyamoto after what he did to Sticker Star, then that could give the Paper Mario series a glimmer of hope.

I don't think it's so much as Miyamoto outright despising story in games.  Legend of Zelda and Pikmin (I think; haven't played any games in the latter series) are proof of that.

I think it's more that he doesn't like having too much of it in just the Mario games specifically, because he feels that it distracts too much from the gameplay.  Hell, now that I think about it, part of me doesn't blame him for doing what he did. Super Paper Mario, in my opinion, did go over the top a bit with its Blumiere and Timpani romance plot and the Dark and Light Prognosticus and Dimentio destroying the universe and all that- it all felt like 2deep4me lore that was planned for a completely unrelated game but with Mario and company tacked on to it at the last minute.

Compare SPM's plot to that of the first two PM games, all four Mario and Luigi titles, and even Super Mario RPG. Those games (especially PM64 and SMRPG) are much lighter in plot, but they still had substance.  Not only that, but the Mario characters had more direct involvement in the story than just being... there. That's still just me, though.

Also, Miyamoto shouldn't be blamed for everything Sticker Star-related; the folks who did the Club Nintendo surveys for SPM didn't give a damn about that game's story (yeah, Nintendo actually reads those; who knew?!).  In addition to that, Intelligent Systems has wanted to simplify things plot-wise for the next Paper Mario game ever since development of SPM ended. If anything, IS most likely took Miyamoto's words too literally by interpreting "tone it down on the story, guys" as "get rid of the story completely".

Miyamoto outright said "I don't care about the Zelda timeline". I think most all of the non gameplay stuff is handled by the rest of the team.

They either won't care or will consider it a good thing.
The whole point of the "master race" isn't LOL NO NINTENDO GAMES, it's that games are better on PC, especially when compared to their console counterparts.

If anything this will just lead to more people playing Nintendo games because now they can be modded, etc.

More games on PC only makes PC better.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Kriven - 03-17-2015

I would honestly be fine with every company developing Windows ports of their games and distributing through Steam, but that's just me.

That's not really what's going to happen here anyways, so it's moot. I do kind of hope they revisit... I had this Pokemon Trading Card PC game when I was young, like eight or nine. Haven't been able to find it in years, or anything about it online, but I used to love to play against the CPU. It was a simple game, designed as a "How-to-Play" app... if that got rereleased through whatever PC connection they plan on doing, that would be awesome.

I suppose they could revisit concepts they had for the SNES Mouse as well.

Mario Paint replaces MS Paint

Though, they never said they were putting games on PC in all of this.  Just mobile, along with continuing to make dedicated game consoles as always

I wasn't dissing the game mechanic. I was just saying that it gave me a headache, literally. Like my brain literally couldn't handle flipping between the two perspectives. It's not really the game's fault.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who suddenly flashed a what-if thought of SM3DW online multiplayer and level hacks

Nintendo said they weren't porting games to PC or mobile.

I think Kosheh on the money here. What we're going to get are applications that compliment the console's games.

The mobile gaming market is very different in Japan. It's hard to know what to expect. Even harder to believe any such mobile games would find their way west.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Jermungandr - 03-18-2015

Wouldn't it be awesome if Nintendo provided their own Steam-esque service so you could play Nintendo games throughout the ages on your computer without the use of illegal roms. I'd be totally into it.

Never gonna happen though. I mean, unless Nintendo suddenly decides they want to make an actual smart decision this decade.

See, you say that, but basically every other service like steam is hated. Very few people like origin or U-Play, Gearbox tried to have one but it fell apart for lack of content, Blizzard's works because its non-intrusive, doesn't take long to load, and only has like 5 games anyway.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Kriven - 03-19-2015

Honestly feel like all of these DRM PC services need something like UltraViolet so if you buy Dragon Age on one it can be unlocked on the others (since it's literally the same content for the same device), but that's just me.

I've heard both of those are intrusive and all around not too great, so people disliking them probably makes sense.
