sega gonna finally bite the dust thanks to sonic boom

We can't just pin that on Boom. From what I've been hearing on the internet, there's been some crazy stuff going on in SEGA management for years and it's all coming back to bite them in the rear.

YES! YESSSSSS!!! FUCK YES!!!!!!

Finally, those greedy bastards are going down!

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Jermungandr - 01-31-2015

How exactly are they any more greedy than anyone else in the gaming industry? For the last several years they've been just trying their best to stay alive, period.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Kriven - 01-31-2015

So I guess I shouldn't hold my breath for Genesis VC and ports of the Sonic Advance trilogy...

Wait a minute!  Who's going to be responsible for Puyo Puyo?  Fuck the other games, give those rights back to Compile or something Dx.

All Sega even cares about now is Sonic and money, while giving every single other franchise of theirs the finger. And the way they treat their developers that aren't Sonic Team is disgraceful.

Granted, they're not as bad as Activision, EA, or Ubisoft, but still.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Jermungandr - 02-01-2015

Wrong. Sega barely has any money to throw around now, so they have to rely on Sonic to make money for them to stay afloat. It's not that they don't want to utilize their other franchises, it's that they literally can't afford to. They can't afford to do anything that isn't a money-gaining guarantee like Sonic because they can't take the risk.

Also keep in mind with the Sonic Boom situation, Big Red Button told Sega they could have a game finished by Christmas and failed to deliver, so that's not entirely their fault either. You could argue that Sega could have given them more time instead of pushing it out the door unfinished, but they literally couldn't afford to wait any longer. Game development constantly drains your wallets, and if they were going to make any sort of profit off of the game whatsoever they HAD to get it out the door in time for Christmas sales. Yes, a longer development period would have resulted in a more polished game, but it would have been at a huge risk of making much less desperately-needed profit.

Granted I'm not saying that they're corporate decisions aren't royally screwed up, they definitely need some help getting all their shit straightened out. But I disagree that it's because they are being especially greedy - or at least, no more than any other major game company - it's more like they're being cowardly and, well, stupid, to be frank.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Koopaul - 02-01-2015

Yeah that's how I see it. They're just kind of stupid. And desperate.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - ~Axis~ - 02-01-2015

They arent so stupid as to realise what made sonic so popular and what to improve on and what to CUT BACK ON. They could have fixed the sonic franchise if they wanted to but didnt and now theyre paying for it. Period.

I'm more worried about what's going at Nintendo to be honest.

http://mynintendonews.com/2015/01/30/analyst-says-nintendos-core-business-is-in-bad-shape-and-worsening/

Provided, I'm sure it'll get better once they dish out the games they hyped about at E3, but I will admit that articles like this one has left a shadow of a doubt with me.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Koh - 02-01-2015

I doubt Nintendo has anything to worry about. I'm sure they've got enough bank to last them a few generations.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Goemar - 02-01-2015

How to Save Sega in 3 easy steps:

1. Release a remake of Sonic The Hedgehog using the Generations
2. Release a remake of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 using the Generations engine
3. Release a remake of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles (yes just combine them, sick of all this re-release crap where you can't) using the Generations engine

Slap the first 2 at £12 each or a £20 bundle and Sonic 3+SK at £20. People would pay and it's easy money.

RE: GAMER LOUNGE 20XX (NO CASUALS!!) - Vipershark - 02-01-2015

Or they could just take the now definitive versions of those games already made by Taxman and only released on phones and then release them on PC and consoles.

I'm sure the Sonic CD remake sold great. Why haven't Retro Engine Sonic 1 and 2 been ported elsewhere?
(also Taxman and Stealth released a proof of concept video showing S3K running in the Retro Engine but Sega currently has no plans to release it officially, presumably due to music licensing issues with Michael Jackson's estate)
