RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - Kosheh - 04-17-2017

I keep chunking shit into my backlog and it's going to actually kill me

I started by playing Horizon Zero Dawn. Then Zelda came out and I started playing that. I STILL haven't finished it and Persona 5 came out...then this weekend I managed to get Yooka-Laylee (I completely  forgot I backed it on Kickstarter till this week, oops) but I'm postin because Puyo Puyo Tetris is right around the corner. I've played this in the past and I'm...not really too excited about it coming to Switch...

first off, I play using the pro controller. There's something odd about it where I'll hit any other direction on the dpad and it's somehow register as UP while playing Tetris...which causes blocks to fastfall. Having this accidentally happen in Tetris is literally The Worst.

the other thing is that I'm pretty sure Puyo play is stupid broken compared to Tetris play - to the point where it's like 2:1 stacked (lol). I think I'm a pretty decent Tetris player - not amazing, but decent enough to hold my own in some VS Tetris maybe. Playing against the CPU in Tetris VS Puyo? I just get completely crushed. Meanwhile I can swap - Puyo VS Tetris, I'm a shit Puyo player - and I'll win almost 100% of the time.

I don't understand. How on earth is this supposed to be a Puyo/Tetris crossover game when one side completely has an advantage over the other?

For some reason us UK folk don't seem to get a demo (I have a US PSN account (got it for Closure on the PS3) but have long since forgotten the password).

But when I buy the game I will get back to you.

I'm rather excellent at Puyo but pretty pants at Tetris. My younger brother (aka Lonely Goomba) broke the score on the DS Tetris (as in it was symbols not numbers) so it'll be interesting to see how it goes...

RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - Kosheh - 04-17-2017

oh

there's a demo on the Switch's eShop

also reading up on it, apparently it's the other way around: the Tetris side of things are actually overpowered - a skilled Tetris player can beat a skilled Puyo player most of the time (unless you've got a Puyo god living under your roof I guess)

so I think I'm just bad at Tetris. And Puyo don't even get me started every time I play Puyo I'm about to shit myself because I feel like I can't stack those blobs without getting absolutely sacked by the CPU ):

Replaying Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney

It's still really good but it's just making me want Dai Gyakuten Saiban all the more Cry

Unless they changed something from the PS3 version, which I have, not really. I even consider Tetris being actually the more broken one. I used to play this game with my friends on the PS3 and it was a blast. But yeah, they always picked Tetris because they can't play Puyo mostly and they knew how broken it was in terms of speed.

Tetris is way faster than Puyo and on the competitive site of things, it also is clearly easier to get rid of the garbage on Tetris, while in Puyo your neck will be broken if you get any most of the time. Remember, in Tetris, garbage is coming from below, while in Puyo, it mostly covers everything above the playfield. Also Puyos playfield is smaller than Tetris, which means a higher level of risk.

This means, not only is Tetris speedy but also mostly defensive. These are the reasons, why you would attack with Puyo, while you go in Swap into the Tetris mode if you are getting garbage to clear.

I'm still kinda upset that only the Switch version got localized but well... the voice acting tho... what the heck? Please tell me there is a option to choose the Japanese ones. These English ones are horrible.

Erm... the localised version is coming to PS4 as well man...

As for buying Game Store credits... can't you just use PayPal for everything now :/

not only that, the PS4 version is actually $10 cheaper than the Switch version lol

I'm playing Tornado Outbreak on PC. It's the game I mostly play......

RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - Hiro-sofT - 04-20-2017

Wooops! I just realize now, that you did already mentioned it before. Well, someone has not read everything that day I guess. Sorry for that. I also don´t wanted to sound like one of the Megapro meanie players, since I suck at this game as well. I can play both to a certain degree decent, but that's all. I never heard of the PS4 one, mainly because I play less PS stuff to begin with (offers only a very small palette of games I'm interessted in).

Sorry for that, I was at a rush since the only time I ever can post here if I'm at work and do a break or before going to work. Also sorry for grammar errors, I used my phone this time for writting and I'm not used to it.

Sonic CD. Man the levels in this game are massive. Like actually seeing all of a level would take hours.

RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - miyabi95_ - 04-23-2017

i've only beaten CD once by debugging, without any emeralds (seriously tho special stages are such a pain).

i'm close to beating the ios version (again, without emeralds) but the last boss is giving me problems.

RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - Goemar - 04-23-2017

*Time Stones

And yeah the bonus levels are tough - takes some getting used to how to actually hit the damn UFOs thanks to the poor depth perception (or whatever you'd call it).

Though I believe the good ending can also be achieved by making every level have a 'good future' - but that is probably harder than getting all the Time Stones given how big the levels are.

Does the iOS version give you the option to use the good soundtrack? Or is it lame-US one?

Edit: Looked into it, seems all versions of the 2011 'remaster' allows you to switch between soundtracks - but the main themes are instrumental only and have had the lyrics removed - real shame :/

RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - Goemar - 04-24-2017

Completed Sonic CD (with the bad ending of course!) and now playing Yoshi's Island in it's SNES glory and not the horrid GBA port...

Quite a bit harder than I remember it being... though I probably suck a lot more at video games now...

RE: What Are you playing? April May Bring More games - Hiro-sofT - 04-25-2017

The biggest issue I had with Sonic CD was its level design Unimpressed .

It was mostly that weird maze like level layout, which was later put even further in Knuckles Chaotix, which I also despise. I'm okay, playing through Sonic CD by just running through the levels with the bad ending (since most of the time, you just have to find a way forward), but it's really a pain to find all the stuff required for the good ending, when the levels are not only big but also that mazy. The game is really similar to the first game, which wasn't the quickest game to begin with (and far form being my favorite).

I think I got the ending once by collecting the Time Stones, but that was hard enough. I remember having trouble with a specific special stage, where I always couldn't destroy the last UFO in it.
