RE: What Are you playing? tis the season - TomGuycott - 03-21-2016

Yeah, the main story is tedious. Instantly I can see it being a better design to have each league have only have a tournament consisting of 8 or fewer matches and then the promotion battle. The way it is now makes it feel very grindy.

Right now the roster (playable wise, not support, as I don't even know all the support sets yet) is lacking Poison and Bug, so I could see Beedrill being a good choice for DLC (or any of the other Bugs with Mega Evolve, like Scizor, Heracross and Pinsir), or my main man Nidoking would be a sweet poison type.

Come to think of it, if they ever make a sequel and do things sort of Tekken Tag style and incorporate a tag team system, Nidoking and Nidoqueen would be an awesome choice for that. Not that the tag teams need to be preset, but it would be almost necessary to have them both available.

I've been playing a lot of Animal Crossing: New Leaf lately. Ever since restarting my town I've gotten hooked on it all over again. I can't help it!

I've kept busy in-game, though, with stuff like these t-shirts;

They have the characters' series logos on the back, the Smash symbol on the right sleeve, and their stock icon on the left. They're not perfect 1-to-1 conversions (and I'm pretty much just "tracing" them from sprite rips), but I think I've done a pretty decent job overall.

Just started playing a FDS game called Seiken Psycho Caliber: Maju no Mori Densetsu. It's probably one of the most simple games I've ever played, and although the controls are pretty wonky and enemies are shooting at you left and right, I really like the vibe I get from playing it. You should try it if you like oldschool Zelda gameplay.

So... The joke with Linkle's victory animation in Hyrule Warriors is that she's supposed to go to Hyrule Castle, looks at her map and takes a wrong turn as shown by the sign next to her. I was playing on Ganon's Tower and she was running straight for Hyrule Castle! The sign lied! That tricky piece of wood!

Finally decided to play Ittle Dew, since I had it sitting in my library for a while. It's pretty good, kind of like a smaller, simpler version of the top-down Zelda games, but with pretty much every room being a puzzle. The graphics are especially reminiscent of Minish Cap.

Also been playing Minesweeper! It's strange but I tried it out a couple of times and now I'm somehow hooked. I have to say it is quite nice as a mobile game, really simple yet fun way to pass the time.

And as usual Hearthstone, looking forward to the new expansion. I'll probably try make some mech decks though before Naxx and GvG leave (since I plan to play Standard for the most part).

Been really into Hyrule Warriors Legends. I reaaally love this version, I already preordered the bundle DLC for packs on both this and the wii u version.

The game isn't just a port, they changed unit layouts and encounters a great deal. It ranges from minor things like new officer types appearing to completely new scenarios (only in adventure mode have there been super drastic changes to the scenario type.)

Furthermore, the rewards layout has drastically changed in the Adventure maps. For example, the first map only has level 1 weapons on it for all the characters who get new weapons. The only costumes are for Link, Zelda and maybe Ganondorf, but the remaining costumes will be on the other maps as I unlock them.

The level cap is 99 again, but now there are fourth level weapons that are basically the level 3 with super high strength. These replace the 8 bit weapons, which are absent (for now, who knows what will be in the dlc maps).

Previous DLC characters are now unlockable in the first Adventure map. Sadly the strongest two are the furthest away. Two of the other new characters can also be unlocked there.

I reaaaaaaaaaally love the officer switching mechanic. Adventure mode is really where it shines, where you can sometimes select up to 3 or 4 characters. When they allow that, you can basically cheese a level you have trouble with using Master Sword Link.

I also really like Linkle's extra scenarios. The levels are much more challenging than their counterparts in the main story, and they also have small aesthetic differences, like alternate times of day compared to the normal story mode. I also love the really upbeat, heroic version of the Zelda theme they play when you are on the final stretch of her levels, which I don't remember if it was in the wii u game.

All in all, I still love this game, even though I've already put a large number of hours into the previous version.

Personally just wrapped up Day of the Tentacle Remastered with a nice platinum. A game I feel a lot are too young to even know of never mind remember. Still, probably one of the best adventure games out there. Even if it's still an arse to swap those mattresses thanks to the UI (to the point I would have been happy if they just removed the puzzle).

Other than that finally got Mushihimesama Futari so have been slowly stabbing away at that (continuing is for pussies).

So after grinding my ass and balancing caution with recklessness in Hyrule Warriors, I finally got the final Medal (achievement) for obtaining all Medals. It's gold. It's not platinum. What a sham!

I just want all the new Hyrule Warriors stuff on my WiiU.

Going through my King of Fighters phase again. It's been a while since I played any fighting game really, cuz I've been so focused on shmups and bullet hells.

The art direction for the Bravely Second games looks really beautiful...Unfortunately, turn-based RPG's typically bore me so chances of me playing them are low. But if you like unique visuals I recommend you give it a try.

I can imagine some of it's going to be tough to implement, because of the new features in Legends, but now that I'm done, I want new stuff so I can use the upcoming characters for something.

Trying to find some good Ludum Dare webgames, but most of the games are desktop downloads, and most of the web games are webgl, which no computer in this house supports.

Other than that, not feeling motivated to play games right now, so only playing two online games, but only so I can get the daily bonuses from them.

RE: What Are you playing? Spring Cleaning edition - miyabi95_ - 04-21-2016

Recently started playing Dead or Alive 5: Last Round. It's the Core Fighters (free) edition, so i only use Kasumi. It's not as bad as I thought before...I have the full game on Vita (which I haven't played for pretty much a year now due to not having a charger), but I don't remember being as impressed by it as I was by the PS3 version. It's very crisp and while the fighting style is taking some time to get used to, the game in general is pretty enjoyable. Even the online mode is pretty fun. It could have used a better soundtrack though. Too modern R&B for my tastes.

I don't really get the boob jiggle options...Not that I have anything against boobs, but the game moves too fast for my eyes to pick up on any jiggle (even on the highest setting), so I don't see the point of having the jiggle options. Tongue

Trackmania Turbo - so so good

RE: What Are you playing? Spring Cleaning edition - Zero Kirby - 04-22-2016

Playing the hell out of Xenoblade Chronicles X. I finally finished the first game so I could move ahead in this one without fear of spoilers, even though it's only supposed to be a "spiritual successor." (Oh yeah, and I really enjoyed the first one, even if the ending's really bizarre.)

The setting's nowhere near as good as the original game's, the main character isn't as likable (I like how cocky my character is in combat, I really wish he would talk during cutscenes, as it is it just makes them even more awkward than they already are with the "eh" animation), and I really miss Chain Attacks (Overdrive isn't really a great replacement), but it's still pretty fun and I am pretty impressed with just the scale of everything. Oh yeah, and I really wish the "Tatsu resembles a potato" joke would just die already.

The big reveal after Chapter 5 was weird. It makes me wonder how L is able to use Overdrive though. I guess that gets explained later maybe?
