Where's the Lounge though? - Tellis - 07-05-2014

suggestion: return the lounge

not asking for the entire sub back, but even just a general topic in gd (or real life if you don't want it viewable by guests I guess)
(07-05-2014, 06:08 PM)Sevenstitch Wrote: Is there truth in that seemingly humorous statement?

so

Where do forum games and idle off topic chatter go now?
Is general discussion an all purpose subforum now, or are such frivoloustic diversions no longer allowed?
Some actual clarification would be appreciated, so as to limit potential future unintended infractions.

I understand that actual contentwise, the lounge was sparse, but it can't be denied that it wasn't used and enjoyed by many users.
To compare it to previous versions of the off-topic subforums this site has had in the past, I think one could agree it was a much more mellow and friendly place.

Only my 2 cents of course

Just to piggyback off what Rhyme and Sevenstitch have already spoken up about, can we get the Lounge board back? Like, I dunno, maybe Dazz/Petie don't feel this way because they're more wrapped up on the business end of things and a board that's kind of just "free space for goofy fartin' about" may seem frivolous and time-wasting, but I feel like it's a pretty integral part about what keeps people involved with the community as a whole. It allows people to look at the forums as a whole and go "oh hey, I can go here to work on my art/rip stuff AND it's a cool place to 'hang with chill bros ™'" instead of looking like a place that's completely sterile and overly curated. I mean, that's why I've stuck around. I came here to improve my spriting skills and stuck around because the community in general is (pretty much) down to earth and chill while still being constructive.

I mean, it's a friggin' forum about pixel art and video game assets, it's not exactly high-class subject matter and I don't think anybody is really looking for a "professional and business-like environment" when they come here. I get that there's a want to clean the place up and make it seem more friendly to outsiders, but after a point it starts to look like we've got a collective stick up our asses. People want to be goofy on the internet. People want a place to play forum games or talk about stuff that ain't super serious. Create that space for them and they'll use it, it's pretty simple.

Also, just throwing it out there, I personally don't think it was a great idea to get rid of the lounge area without any input from the community. It's kind of a big organization change to just... go ahead and do with no real feedback beforehand.

bring back spamhaul 2014

Until the forum seems to require such a thread, we are going to avoid having one. Anything you wish to discuss you can create a thread to do so.

RE: Where's the Lounge though? - Sevenstitch - 07-05-2014

Look im not going to argue for the return of the lounge area; its clear as to why it has been removed as already stated.
I'm not asking for "spamhaul 2014" either; lets let spamhaul die already, folks, there hasn't been an active "spamhaul" for nearly half a decade.
However, please keep the re-inclusion of the lounge area as a future option, later down the road, once the site revamp has been finalized and traffic normalizes again.

I know that the removal of it tweaks a lot of us more casual users who aren't as active with the main portions of the site (ie pretty much every resource related subforum), but really not having a dedicated subforum for goofy nonsense isn't the end of the world i guess. It's not as if the userbase en masse will stop being the goofy lovable nerds we've all spent time with here over the years.

TLDR: Time guys, give it time. No nonsense subforum for a while isn't the end of the world, regardless of how much it sucks not having one.

But it is. It's for off-topic banter. Not having that subforum is actually going to encourage more crap and increase the likelihood of off-topic banter in forum topics elsewhere.

Maybe not from you, Sevenstich, or me, or Dazz or Petie, but the other guys....you know. Those other guys.

Honestly if you called it "Off-Topic Banter" and made it more straightforward that'd work too.

I mean I honestly don't care if it never reappears really. It's just that given a forum community made up of millenials, an off-topic forum is inevitable and it's got to happen at some point. It's unavoidable.

I don't really know how this idea came to fruition but there shouldn't be another spamhaul.

If I remember right and correct me if I'm wrong here but wasn't the exact reason why spamhaul was removed and replaced with the lounge to begin with was because of the intense amount of hostility that was splitting the community apart?

Just because of that I don't even think that it's really something to joke about ether because that's the thing we need to avoid and I think that we're better off with out it.

Far as the lounge goes I may not be happy with the fact that it's gone because that was one of the places I tend to lurk around, but I can see why Dazz and Petie are going without it. So far as I'm concerned I'm really neutral with the whole deal.

Pretty much this I guess. The Lounge was fun but I can go without it, it wasn't the centre of the forum for me. The threads I really enjoyed were ones in GD (both General and Gaming), and since those sections remain I'm content with that.

Like Diogalesu I'm pretty neutral about it.

What happened to it? It was up for a brief period but then it was gone? I'm talking about the new lounge.

RE: Where's the Lounge though? - Dazz - 07-07-2014

You need at least 20 posts and a month of activity to view it.

It's now a special access forum: you have to have been on the site for at least a month to be able to see it.

I really think they could have thought that decision through more... because it's not a very good one.

EDIT: Dazz ninja'd me, but yeah.

New rules state that members must have been active for a month and achieved twenty posts before gaining access to the Lounge. :-\

RE: Where's the Lounge though? - E-Man - 07-07-2014

To be honest, I don't like the new requirements for new users to join the lounge. Since we already have users in the past spam their post count just to get into the requests forum, I feel like the same is going to happen here.

RE: Where's the Lounge though? - Dazz - 07-07-2014

The lounge has been merged with General Discussion, thus the requirements are now gone.
