Sometimes I wish I could just tear off virt's arm and use it as my own...

There's a game named Ayakashi Ghost Guild which features many mythological creatures from various countries... However I was offended when I found out that their Saci Pererê was a blonde, tanned girl WITH TWO LEGS!!

I redid the art by myself and put a far more accurate dialogue for her too.

Here's a drawing I did for a good friend of mine of her avatar character in G33X (My cartoon series)

Is it just me, or do I see some similarities to Kazooie there?

RE: [DRAWINGS] Doodles and Finished Pieces 2.0 - SmithyGCN - 01-20-2015

I'm pretty sure it's not your imagination. There's even a jigsaw piece logo on her shirt. Tongue

RE: [DRAWINGS] Doodles and Finished Pieces 2.0 - Sketchasaurus - 01-21-2015

Yeah, the similarities to Kazooie on her outfit are intentional.

it's because I have a nickname for her that's a play on her name and Kazooie's.

Welp

Still not great but it's a much better improvement than I could've hoped for Cry

Groovy! Don't be afraid to make messy lines; as long as you can read what's going on in the drawing, you're in the clear! A large part of improving in your art is to be confident that you'll reach that goal; I know it can be discouraging sometimes and you might feel like saying "my art isn't as good as so-and-so's" but it's not a competition.

The worst thing that an artist can do is to defeat themselves before even trying. If you want to improve, have fun, surround yourself with things that motivate you and keep you on task. (and it shouldn't be only other people's art because you run the risk of losing yourself in emulation and end up struggling to break out if that habit)

If you've improved that much in only 1-2 months, I've got a feeling that you'll be shooting up pretty fast if you keep learning dilligently. c:

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. ;___;

But yes I have improved that much. I drew the latter image without any references and I can pretty much draw my OC's head on demand now. The eyes are still a bit tricky and getting the chin shape how I want it can also be a "erase multiple times" task. Getting the body into interesting and non-stiff poses is also tricky but I am still working on it!!!

I really enjoy your drawing (I even actually enjoyed your old noodly style, to be honest) and it is really impressive that you've come so far. As I've told you many times, the key of improvement is partly looking for new things to do and not to take drawing seriously. If you see drawing as a fun thing where you can fuck up and still enjoy it, then you're in the right track! Because development and improvement comes faster when you aren't forced to do it and are not afraid to make mistakes.

Making mistakes and doing poor art is the way of improving so even if you feel your art isn't 'there' yet, don't forget that each piece you do will point to that direction.

I tend to draw something I like, then something that I don't really know how to do. I find it's easier for me to focus this way, because I can draw my usual stuff and challenge myself later with something completely different: I won't stagnate, or make the learning process a chore.

On another note (still related to the post), if you make a bad art, don't throw it away or despise it. Keep it and try it later. It'll amaze you how much you've improved (much like the pic you just posted!) Showing us progress is the only way to improve, because an amazing artist who never shares his art is basically not an artist.

So should I focus on drawing on paper first, or is it okay to juggle between paper and tablet? I enjoy doing both, but my long-term biggest dream is to fully seek out digital art. Especially Touhou art.

Here's some stuff I've done with my tablet:

On the subject of traditional art, I also 'redrew' that picture of my OC but this time I wanted her hand to be on her waist, and for her to have a more noticeable expression. I also tried to shade it and failed miserably. But oh well https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B7691AzIQAAQ3fv.jpg:large

Also here's a picture of my OC crying because sad times: http://ikeychain.deviantart.com/art/Natalie-Crying-508891456

You are still a beginner as you already know. The anatomy is still wonky in many places but again, the understanding will come in due time as long as you keep practicing and looking for references.

Every time you draw and 'fail miserably' is something to be proud of. An attempt is the proof that you still try despite not knowing the boundaries of your art style. Basically, your art style is a huge island that you're discovering. The stuff you know how to do by heart is the part you've already explored and built houses; the things you don't know is the part you didn't explore yet. Eventually you'll find out more cool things and all these will be added onto your 'already explored areas' of your art style island.

Also, while your biggest dream is doing pretty digital art, I strongly suggest keeping with traditional art too. Not because you'll get more dexterity this way - paper definitely feels much, much better to draw on and the lack of Ctrl Z and other easy tools will force you to be more precise (which is a plus).

Good things come to those who enjoy their own work. You'll see.

Spent today drawing characters I've never drawn before. Will probably draw Nitori Kawashiro tomorrow. Experimenting with new hair, eyes/shading the eyes, poses.

Edit: I actually went and redrew the Touhou picture after taking a suggestion from a friend of mine, in order to adjust the chin a bit. Please look at this instead: https://twitter.com/iKeychain/status/558815445298327552
