hate to say it though colton is right on this one; the engine they've adopted since mario kart 64 pretty much trumps the SNES/GBA ones pretty dang hard

Heh, wasn't meant to be hilarious - just my first reaction to the thread so I figured why not?
And sure, compared to modern iterations of the game, Super Mario Kart sucks but it isn't really fair to compare forward, is it? At the time, it was great because we didn't have anything better. I'd say it still holds up today on its own, to a certain extent, if you're not comparing it to later titles in the series.
