The Christmas Special topic - E-Man - 12-01-2013

Tell us about the holiday TV classics you used to watch on the couch with your folks when you were a kid. Got any facts and stories that relate to them?

To kick things off, I'll talk about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I watched a lot of Christmas specials on a regular basis when I was still a little guy, but I had a lot of clear and fond memories with this one. I liked how the fur trees looked in it because the looked more like stacked umbrellas than actual trees.

Oh I always watch a different version of A Christmas Carol since there are soooooo many. We usually watch the either the 1970 musical, the 1938 version, or the Muppet version.

Yeah not a TV special but it's something we watch every year. It's Charles Dickens' best story.

Ever watched the version featuring the richest duck in the world, Koopaul?

Miracle on 34th street is a very good family movie, have to watch it again Smile

And also, Home Alone 1 and 2 are always so fun to watch, it doesnt matter who you are or how old you are.. is there anyone that doesnt like these movies?

RE: The Christmas Special topic - E-Man - 12-06-2013

I'm always up to watch the first two Home Alone films! ….Just don't mention the sequels, though.

die hard and die hard 2 are the greatest christmas films

The Ref is a favorite of mine and a bit of an underrated gem in my opinion; the vile, petty hatred between the family is just so beautiful to watch. And as with Koopaul, I enjoy me some Christmas Carol: my go-tos are usually the Muppets one and (as of recent) the CG Disney one. The Rankin Bass specials are corny, but I always get a kick out of those; my favorites being Santa Claus is Coming to Town and The Year Without a Santa Claus.

Oh, and how has nobody else yet mentioned A Christmas Story, possibly the most quotable Christmas movie ever made?

(also, gonna second the first two Die Hard movies)

*shudder*

My only biggest complaint with the Rankin/Bass specials are that the animation is choppy. Even though they are timeless and lovable, they could have taken a few lessons from Disney (when it was still about animation instead of cheesy sitcoms and teen idols) to learn how to animate better.

Still, I wouldn't blame them for the animation, though. If you watched documentaries on stop-motion animation, you would know that it is more time consuming than most forms of animation. Heck! It's pretty impressive that a certain Halloween/Christmas film is able to be animated so fluently considering how much effort is needed to create stop-motion films.

I usually watched the Grinch(both original and movie), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and the House of Mouse Christmas special. I still watch those(except for the third one, but I might this year). ^^

Holy fuck, I knew was forgetting something big on my list. Nothing short of comedy gold.

WE ARE FORGETTING A YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS HERE PEOPLE

RE: The Christmas Special topic - Maxpphire - 12-14-2013

The Muppets Christmas Carol is the only holiday movie I watch. Whoops.

RE: The Christmas Special topic - puggsoy - 12-14-2013

The Santa Clause movies have been on TV here, the third (The Escape Clause) is coming tonight. The Grinch is also coming next week, been a while since I watched that.

There isn't really a consistent list that we watch though, we just watch whatever comes on TV.

RE: The Christmas Special topic - Maxpphire - 12-16-2013

yeah I actually remember liking the Santa Clause movies too. Mainly because Bernard. He was the best elf and I was SO MAD when he wasn't in the 3rd one.
