Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Masharu-Law - 09-25-2013

Hello !

This may be my first contribution Smile. I made a search and I didn't find any similar subject so...

The first screen shoots released by Nintendo for the game Super Princess Peach showed us some portraits of Princess Peach but in a different style. So why not add these on The Spriters Ressource as unused sprites ?

Sorry for the really bad quality. You can find the original screen shoots (with the same quality) here : http://www.gamekult.com/jeux/images-super-princess-peach-J71517i.html?p=15 (sorry it's in french).

So who may be interested to make them clean and ready for use ? Smile

I don't know why Nintendo and Tose (Legendary Starfy) had choosen to change the style, this one is really great and I love this Princess Peach's style Cry.

So these are edited from screenshots? Hmm, I'm going to move the topic over to Sprite Discussion and see what everyone thinks.

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Masharu-Law - 09-25-2013

It was the very first model of Princess Peach's portrait for her DS game (= unused so), also shown on the Famitsu Magazine. Taken as such from old screen shoots, I didn't edited these. If you want I post the screenshots directly...

Edit : Ah, you may noticed that I uploaded on Deviantart, to be exact I uploaded on my Sta.sh (so not publicly).

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Garamonde - 09-25-2013

They aren't edited, they're official. Tongue
We won't upload them though because they are hosted on another website and were not ripped by you so it'd be considered a form of stealing.
Unless of course the ripper is asked to upload them and agrees, but that seems unlikely.
I'm moving this to DS submissions, but marking it as non-submission for now as it doesn't belong here. Tongue

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Vipershark - 09-25-2013

These aren't even sprites, they're rips of screenshots.
Either way, they aren't acceptable for submission.

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Masharu-Law - 09-25-2013

Hey cool okay here I'm the "ripper" XD, I just took the sprites from the screen shoots as you can see the quality of theses. But I didn't know they are already ripped by someone else on another place. Just to know, on which website they are available ? It's maybe me XD (maybe not, but I'm not a thief because someone else made before >__>), since I took this rips some years ago.

Edit : And what is that if it's not sprites games ? And I'm not here to propose these directly as resources of course >__>. I supposed that we can restaure these since these are unused sprites and they are somehow "unique" on Internet (I never saw, but I'm still waiting to see the other source). A bit of archeology, it does not hurt XD.

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Vipershark - 09-25-2013

That's what I'm saying.
Taking a screenshot and cropping it down is not ripping a sprite. These are still low quality, artifact-filled jpeg images, no matter how rare or not-in-the-game they are.

If you were to take them and recreate them in full quality, that would be one thing.
Otherwise, they're unacceptable as-is.

I don't know how it might work... But It might not have the same quality as if you found the sprites deep within the memory of SPP

This is from Mario wiki however

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Masharu-Law - 09-25-2013

Vipershark > I never said "it's a rip of blablabla" on my side, it's Axle the Red who said 'rip' first. Okay I'm not so good in english so I can not use specific terms such as "ripper" for example. But as I said on my first message, I juste take from the (in-game) screen shots. And the screen shot, it's only with that quality. It's not my fault...

Please don't say bullshit such as "I'm a thief" or "this isn't sprites", these are in-game screen shoots but okay sorry sorry sorry it's in very bad quality. What do you want so ?... Wait, the unued sprites must be present in the game, that's the problem here ? Just have to say so !

Hiyna S. Blackfeather > These screens on Mario Wiki have the same quality. These are quite rare screens of the Super Princess Peach's beta game because there are only 5 screens.

[Edit] Come on guys, VG-Resource is an elite community ? I didn't expect you're all great artists with wonderful pixel-art galleries on Deviantart. If it's the case, I will say you good bye because I'm not a ripper and I'm not an awesome artist, I'm not good at all. Too bad we can not make sort of projects here.

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Kitsu - 09-25-2013

No one said you were a thief or anything of that sort...?
EDIT: Oh I see where you got that. I think Axle's point here was more that the original screenshots were retrieved from another website, meaning that the right to use those screenshots would belong to the owner of that website, I guess? In that case, you would not have permission to clip from those screenshots, unless the website owner gave that right to you.

As far as I can tell, the problem here is that they're cut from really poor quality screenshots, meaning they're no where near the same quality as a rip from an actually running version of the game would be. It'd be like cutting sprites out from a camcorder Let's Play of a DS game.

These pictures are valuable as they're unused and represent an important part of the game's growth, sure, but they're unacceptable quality for sprite submission. A better place for them to be stored would be a wiki, rather than a sprite archival site.
Note that the reason that a recreation would be acceptable (though likely under the customs section rather than rips) is because it would then be a high-quality, usable pixel art.

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Garamonde - 09-26-2013

Sorry I wasn't calling you a thief, I was just pointing out our policy on submission ownership.
(Also, I didn't read the OP correctly, I thought the link took you to perfect-quality versions of the sprites. I won't move this after all)

RE: Super Princess Peach - Unused portraits - Gors - 09-27-2013

Quote:wonderful pixel-art galleries on Deviantart.

Quote:wonderful (...) Deviantart.

I laughed

Anyway, we aren't calling you a thief at all, and the sprites cannot be used due to horrible jpg compression. A sprite rip, to be usable, must be saved in a lossless file format, as in a format that doesn't add any unwanted blur. JPG sadly adds those blurs everywhere and that kills the quality and sharpness of the sprite.

If someone went to find the beta graphics inside the cart, and extract them, then we could accept it. That's what ripping is, extracting directly from the source. And that's not elitist at all because ripping is indeed a difficult job, a job not even I dare to attempt.

This being said, if no beta graphics are found within the game, and someone is bold enough to eyeball the sprite using those jpg refs and save it in png or any good file format, then we could accept it as rip maybe?
