('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - CyberWolfBia - 03-16-2013

well, long time that I don't post something here... actually I just posted once, a Bomberman sheet... anyway, I'm bringing something I'd like some opinions to improve, but if I get the approval with the content I have, for me it's okay (better, I guess, lol). The fact is that I never really feel 100% satisfied with my sprites =P.

Is Sonic, the version that they call "Classic", for me (a oldschool lover -q) just Sonic...

I did respecting the appearance of the first games without infantilizes him or make too small like SEGA did in Generations (As can be noted, compared to the "Modern" Sonic in Advance, this sprite is not so small). Also I kept the expressions of the Genesis games and I tried to cut a few frames of animations from GBA that I thought would be insignificant or just did not fit very well with the animation of the old games.

well, enough to talk. XD just say me what you think, I'm anxious to know. thanks for the attention. =)

PS: sorry my bad english :\/

I am going to get some critiques on this sheet before I accept it. Smile

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - MotorRoach - 03-16-2013

Oh hey, fancy to see you here, specially with a new sprite sheet.

For criticism, I just have a few things to point out. I just think that the face on the first skidding sprite looks a bit oddly distorted, and that it could look better rounded out. That and the corkscrew run animation, the head shading on most of the corkscrew running sprites doesn't seems too Sonic Advance-ish.

Something kind of unrelated, but can you change my name on the credits list (the last one) to the one I'm using now?

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - Gors - 03-16-2013

I am going to assume you're Brazilian just for the inclusion of that -q inside the parenthesis

Some of the sprites seem jagged, but I'm no sonic expert. I will let others comment on it too.

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - Dolphman - 03-17-2013

When it comes to Sonic Sprites. I hate the Advance style, due to overuse when they first got ripped.
And the fact fangames use them way too much. With some of them badly clashing with Megadrive graphics.

anyway, some thoughts on this.
He does looked jagged. Seems to resemble the sprites from the Master System version, as well. Given how awkward the spines look on some of the heads.
And a few heads still have longer spines.

Hey dood 0/, I don't even knew that you had an account here 8D. nice to see someone known around here XD. Well, thanks for the tips, I'll try to make the corrections during the next days, about my absence on my DA, Sinhra, MugenGuild and others is just effect of my life studying. Y_Y This sheet was half done a long time ago, I just made some animations in the last days to finally publish it (If I not mistaken, we talk about "My Classic Sonic attempt" in a old Journal mine).

And don't worry, I gonna change your name on the credits, you know, the Brawl Running sprite was done by you with this nick, so I thought was better use this, and anyway I got so accostumed to call you GTF. XD but I'll change =).

Oh, you got me =P, this "-q" thing is something addictive that I can't quit. XD. and thanks for the support anyway, people, at least, saying something sincere about the sprites is already pretty good to me. I'll try make it better.

Yeah, I know that the Advance style is overused nowadays, but I still like it,... and I'd like much more if it was with the Classic Design on Sonic, and then... I did it =P.

I used some Master System and Mobile games (the StH p1 and p2) as base to make it, not just for the size but the animations, I think that fit pretty well, adding some one or two frames for "Advance Style". The head (and the 360ยบ spin) was almost completly custom, and I think that because this some seems a little strange... I'm not very good with scratch sprites .-. . And some others heads with "too long" spines, was obviously edits from the original GBA sprite. I gonna try make more "Classic alike".

Thanks for the review =)

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - CyberWolfBia - 03-18-2013

some alterations, what you think?

I can't see too much necessity to modify all the shading of the corkscrew running animation (not even know what I should do here). :I , but if someone give me a tip, I'd thank.

and sorry for the double post D=

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - MotorRoach - 03-18-2013

It's just the shading on the corkscrew running that looks kind of more genesis-y rather than advance-y. Advance style is kind of different on the shading for the heads, as the darkest blue is mostly used for outlining.

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - CyberWolfBia - 03-19-2013

And now? I put a recolor with the original Advance colors in this yellow box just for comparison and to show better the details.

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - MotorRoach - 03-20-2013

Guess that works better. Now I just recommend to edit the head on the third sprite, since it seems smaller than on the other sprites.

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - CyberWolfBia - 03-20-2013

Well, this is the sheet with all the alterations that you guys said, I think...

what do you think about this now? =)

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - MotorRoach - 03-24-2013

Guess it seems okay now, but better check what other people think before submitting it.

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - Garamonde - 03-24-2013

did you say these use custom colors? I feel that it should really use colors from the game or it doesn't look very in-style.

RE: ('Classic') Sonic The Hedgehog Advance - StarSock64 - 03-24-2013

Yeah, this really doesn't say "advance" style to me so much as "smaller genesis"

You should really make the colors and shading match advance style. To make it look like "Classic" sonic, pay more attention to things like proportions, spikes, expression, etc.

THOSE are the things that make classic sonic recognizable/differentiated, not shading and color.
