So on a scale of one to ten, how painfully apparent is the fact that I have no fucking idea what I'm doing?

Zero.

That's extremely rad Keiang!

Your dragon has kites for wings, to say the least.

There's a serious aesthetic contrast in the piece. It feels like everything but the dragon and HUD were afterthoughts.

Using transparency on a boss is fine to some degree, as it can be assumed that it will not ever be seen out of its black zone, but using it on the player for the sake of using black would restrict what background elements could be used.

Would've thanked you, but your sig spoke against it, so I guess I shouldn't.

As far as the aesthetic contrast, I don't really know how I could make those smaller sprites fit, since the core issue is that the lack of detail. I don't think cramming that much detail into tiny sprites would work well. I could probably make the platforms less crap; I haven't really ever tried making tilesets before. In regards to the black, I thought about that too, but I figured since this only for a fake screenshot, I might as utilize the black background to it's fullest extent.

I'm still working on the background and adding a tail to Blaze Heatnix.

Oooh, all the fire Mavericks in one scene? I love this. Big Grin
I can't really see any problems at this time so keep at it!

Didn't know what to make for the compo, but I've been thinking a lot about that game I'm not going to make, decided to draft an early concept for the battle screen

@Keiang: The dragon's arm closest to the viewer is kind of flat on the black area, especially in comparison to the rest of it. I don't really know how to fix it, I'm afraid, perhaps extend the red-shaded scales a little more.

RE: TSR COMPO Vol.3: "In the name of goodNES" - Ekoi - 08-27-2012

Here is the current WIP for my own project.

Shaded in the wings, tried to make the arm less flat, doubled the size of the character sprites to make them more detailed and thereby lower the aesthetic contrast. Still have no clue what I'm doing.

RE: TSR COMPO Vol.3: "In the name of goodNES" - Zadaben - 08-28-2012

That looks awesome, Keiang!
The one concern I have about it is that the new and improved knight has now outgrown his platforms, which look puny in comparison to everything else.
