Request: Can somebody convert these files? - canasniimehugh - 07-20-2012

Like the title says, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could convert these .M4A files. They are files I ripped from the iPod Final Fantasy 2 port and you take credit for ripping them for all I care, as long as they are submitted. TBH I really want these sounds off my computer. They mock me.

I believe that iTunes can convert them but every time I run iTunes, Windows Vista runs Data Execution prevention and closes it. But maybe other OS`s will have better luck.

Any help would be awesome.

A wild bump appeared!

This is the only one. I swear.

Do you know what these files contain? Google shows me "m4a to mp3".

Are these the only files from the game?

M4A is a sound format that really sucks IMO. I tried several M4A to MP3 converters and they were terrible programs that gave me somewhat bad sounding MP3 files. So I eventually gave up.

and to address your second question: No. There were the save files, some TGA files, and folders that translate the game into different languages. But these are all the sounds.

Sounds aren't really my expertise, but here you go. I've never played this game so I don't know about the quality, but it seems fine to me.

Now if you'll excuse me it is already midnight and I need to go to bed.

It's 1AM where I am Tongue

Quote:Note: If you decide to submit sounds as .MP3, make sure that they are variable .MP3s, rather than a set bit rate (such as 128 or 320 KBPS). This preserves the sound quality while staying smaller in size. You can use programs like Audacity to convert sound files to variable .MP3s.

Sorry for not being clear. This is what I meant by quality. I'll check tomorrow to if this is alright
Thank you. Smile

Seeing as your soruce files are ~64kbps 22050Hz you really shouldn't bother about quality of the MP3s at all, there'S not much to be gained there Tongue

^ That`s quality iPhone music Smug

Now for the part where I make myself sound stupid: How do I check for variable MP3s?

RE: Request: Can somebody convert these files? - puggsoy - 08-02-2012

You could gives VGSC a shot (linked icon in my signature), the converter I'm using doesn't mentioned .m4a files specifically but it might support the encoding method. In any case I want to test as many weird formats as possible.
If it works it'll convert to .wav (no hassle with variable stuff), and so far in my experience the quality has been identical to the original.

RE: Request: Can somebody convert these files? - Garamonde - 08-02-2012

Yeah .WAVs are lossless, though variables are also virtually lossless too but it's up to you what you do. I'll try to get in a sound uploading mood again soon.

EDIT: puggsoy, I just tried your converter on these .M4As of mine and it didn't work. Sad

RE: Request: Can somebody convert these files? - puggsoy - 08-02-2012

Ah well, it was worth a shot. Thought it might work since the extension doesn't necessarily determine the type of file. Thanks for trying anyway.

RE: Request: Can somebody convert these files? - canasniimehugh - 08-02-2012

I originally tried your converter Puggsoy and it didn't work. Still awesome though. Wink

I did find an .M4A converter that turned them into .WAV files so you can close this now. Thanks guys. (and girls!)

Yeah, I found one too, so wish granted!
