Pixel Waves - SmithyGCN - 06-23-2012

As you know, I've been on these forums since forever it seems. Let me show you some of my spritework. C+C is encouraged.

Based off one of my girlfriend's ideas. Used a style similar to Bahamut Lagoon. Though its palette wasn't used.

My interpretation of the Mothman.

A rod from the cryptozoo.

This is my character in one of Des' newest sprite styles.

This is of the "liche" character from RPGMaker2k.

Mewtwo's old idle animation retouched.

At one time, I thought of doing the whole Disney movie in pixel art. I still plan on doing it someday.

A monster made for RPGMaker. I call it Sand Olifander.

Jermafencer/Helmethead made for our 2ST game project.

Tails as a blacksmith.

8-bit Belial and...

8-bit Wagner.
More will go up. I just don't have the time to do it.

[Image: RPG___Flatwoods_Monster_by_SmithyGCN.gif]
The Flatwoods Monster in a Gameboy Color-esque palette.

[Image: Final_Final_Destination_by_SmithyGCN.gif]
Final Destination from Brawl. Not entirely accurate.

A mockup of the heroine from our 2 Souls' Tale game using Grand Cross while in her Belmont Class.

A mockup of the main character visiting a store. Does this look too busy?

An actual screenshot from the game in development.

Malboro in 8-bit. The head needs to synch with the body more.

Picket Man throwing pick-axes.

Not too fond of this one, but I think it's okay to show off.

Zombie gait. Wobbly, wobbly.

RE: Pixel Waves - Star - 06-23-2012

Smithy, it is great to see your stuff again(a big nostalgia boner for me). Also it's nice to know that there is more to come.

One thing about your work is..you make dithering look good. Honestly, dithering is a BIG turn off for me..BUT the way you use it is unique. The Black Jewel being a prime example. It really compliments that dark and gritty look you are going for.(though honestly, the dithering on the disney characters doesn't seem..right to me.)
Also I love the imaginings you create for different popular characters.

RE: Pixel Waves - Previous - 06-23-2012

These are great!

A few are low on contrast, though,. like the olifander. The robin hood's are really dark.

RE: Pixel Waves - Gors - 06-23-2012

I had trouble reading the first dude as a wolf until I zoomed it a little, mostly due to the spiky fur (they're hard to do in pixelart, especially when that small :I).

rest is top-notch, as always.

RE: Pixel Waves - SmithyGCN - 06-23-2012

Thanks for the feedback. I know the Robin Hood characters are too dark and the dithering doesn't quite work on them. I should redo them soon.

Nextly, I added Flatwoods Monster and Final Destination.

RE: Pixel Waves - Previous - 06-23-2012

One of the best Final Destinations I've ever seen.
The bottom might be too bright to work on a dark space backgrond, though ;-)

RE: Pixel Waves - Gaia - 06-23-2012

For a second there I was expecting actual pixelated waves. Tongue

Also, RPG2K or RPG2k3? RPG2k3's the one with the side battle view while RM2K is the one that fights first person akin to the old dragon quest games, as the sprites made for RPG2K look like they were made for RPG2k3 (you didin't specify which battle system they were made for).

RE: Pixel Waves - HandToeKnee - 06-23-2012

Your stuff is truly brilliant, that's all I can say...

RE: Pixel Waves - Lexou Duck - 06-23-2012

This is all amazing, especially the animations Surprise

the only thing is sometimes i fell as if your palettes could be better, try to saturate more, have more contrast, and hueshift

RE: Pixel Waves - Kabukiguy - 06-24-2012

Im salivating over the idea of that movie in pixel form.

RE: Pixel Waves - SmithyGCN - 06-24-2012

I know I am salivating too. I don't know when I'll get back to it. But eventually.

Also, added more stuff.

RE: Pixel Waves - Ton - 06-24-2012

Love, love, love it. I'm so glad to see the game coming along still. That Mewtwo is still such an awesome concept. Great stuff, my friend.

RE: Pixel Waves - Gors - 06-24-2012

idk if I really like the third screen, it looks really busy and distracting for me. I'd use less highlights and if possible, darker colors (which may nmot be a good idea due to high amount of black in that piece)

RE: Pixel Waves - Sengir - 06-25-2012

Amazing stuff, Mothman and Blacksmith Tails are my favorites. Such fluidity!

Also,

whenever I think of PT one of the first things I remember is the SmithyGCN Seal of Quality Shy

RE: Pixel Waves - Snivy101 - 06-25-2012

Mewtwo's Animation looks good. You should keep working on it.
